Spoilers The Roddenberry Archive brings every iteration of Star Trek’s USS Enterprise bridge to life

That is weird. Has that ever happened before? Jorg's discovered a lot of cool hidden stuff over the years. I think this is the first time I've heard him "retracting" something.

It could be a legal thing. Maybe RA didn't have the rights to Cronenberg's image, and Jorg having been an official Star Trek researcher is a little too close to an official statement of who that gray-haired out-of-focus man was meant to be, and they didn't want a Back to the Future II situation on their hands. So, you and I (well, technically, I'm also officially associated with Star Trek, so maybe not me) can say, "Hey, I bet that guy in the background is Kovich," but it's not something that can be officially acknowledged as the intent of the production.

It’s not enough to love the Trek that you love, you also have to weaponize it against the Trek that you hate. They can’t just take the W, they’re too spiteful to let an opportunity to shit on Trek they hate pass.

And the irony is that the short goes out of its way to include direct references to the Trek they claim to hate. I wonder how many of them understand what Yor was all about.

But I’ve seen such comments on that one video that showcases the virtual displays of ship sets from ALL Trek where you get to tour every universe. “I liked this video until it showed the bridge of Disco ten minutes in. Everything after ENT except PIC S3 should be struck from canon”.

I can’t imagine feeling that miserable as a fan.
It's zero sum tribalism. Reds vs Blues in the Roman Circus. Cowboys vs Redskins, political and religious factionalization, etc. Mine is good so theirs must be bad, if not pure evil.

I'm not a big fan of Disco, though don't begrudge those who do like it.

Fascinating article, thank you! I had no idea that BTTF2 was so prescient in so many ways, not only on-screen but behind-the-scenes as well, especially with that lawsuit.

It's possible, although I'm unsure of how Trek licencing works specifically. It could be that they didn't have the right to use him, in much the same way Harry Kim was kept off Picard because he was part of the Prodigy group of characters... even though they never used him. Or possibly the actor would be due royalties for his likeness being depicted a la BttF2?

It's a stand-in, wearing the same suit and glasses but I did notice no badge.

Since the tweet about Kovich has been deleted, if anyone's interested, he can be seen at the back of the crowd at the 2:06 mark in the video.

If you never hear from me again, you know why.

If you never hear from me again,
I don't need your drunk texts at 3 a.m.
Good luck fitting someone in your dorm-sized bed
I guess that I was never part of your plan
So I'm not gonna pretend
You won't see me again
I don't wanna hear about your new girlfriend
Waving her around like she's a fashion trend
I guess that I was never part of your plan
So I'm not gonna pretend
You won't see me again

Sorry, it's what popped in my head when I read that sentence.

What's all this talk about the Enterprise-J about? I don't see it in this Unification short at all.
Do fans just see in this thing what they want to see? Or is there something I'm missing in the narration...

Got to admit I'm busy at work, I'm mostly just admiring the FX with the sound off.

Okay, I definitely see somebody who's unmistakably supposed to be a Kovich... or a perfect stand-in.

It's the location matching the Enterprise-J interior in the archive. Also a Xindi is among the crowd, wearing the same clan badge thing Daniels gave Archer in "Azati Prime" when he said there were Xindi serving on Enterprise-J in the future. Thus it's meant to be the same guy.

There may be more Easter eggs to find in this short film. It is called "Unification" after all. I'd like to think the creators explored every quadrant and series for inclusivity.
I like their “it’s canon, all of it” approach. How do you reconcile the difference between animated and live action? Kirstie Ally and Robin Curtis? TOS Enterprise and SNW Enterprise? Just accept the differences are purely production choices. Trek will never be as consistent and tight as true reality, so the Roddenberry Archive is just accepting there’s all facets of Trek and they all count.

If he did say something he shouldn't have, they likely would talk to him about it offline, out of the public eye. Bad optics otherwise.

Is there a master post, or new thread, of all of the Easter eggs?
I was thinking the same thing. I think someone needs to go through and time code each one and the cross-reference to the Memory Alpha Page, or, in the case of the Enterprise J, picture support of the theory that it is the J.

Here's the Enterprise-J page on the Roddenberry Archive, scrolled down to the "interior" images.

Here's the first image on that page at full size:

And the first shot of the park Kirk finds himself in at the beginning of "Unification":765874 - S01E04 - Unification-0001.jpg

It's not the same exact spot, but from the plants, the lighting, and the cinematography, it seems pretty clear that it's the same general place. Feel free to play "find the difference" and see if there's any precise overlap in the two images. I've only looked for a minute or two, so I'm not going to say for sure there isn't one tree or shrub that isn't in both photos. Or someone can find the real-world park and put both camera angles on a map.
