"Star Trek Begins" - The 'Origins' Film Discussion

It was Orci's planned third Kelvin timeline movie, which would have been about Shatner coming back as Prime Kirk on a quest to restore the Prime Universe, with Kelvin Spock torn between his loyalties to the Kelvin Timeline and the opportunity to bring Vulcan back.

That would have been better than Beyond. But I'm not sure I would want to see Shatner again, or have the idea that the Prime universe somehow needed saving rather than the KT being its own thing.

That title I'm not at all familiar with. Was that an actual proposed movie that didn't happen, or simply a title that someone made up?
It's the Orci script dropped in favour of Star Trek Beyond. I don't know with 100% certainty that's the name, but it's what I've heard from people in communication with him prior to his disappearance from online spaces. I know he promised to send at least one person the script and never did.

If anyone has it, please PM me:lol:

Thanks for the info, guys. While it's hard to say if it would've been good or not, it probably would've put butts in seats, with Shatner's Kirk interacting with the KT crew.

Here
is everything I knew about the movie, with links to concept art.

It never happened for a variety of reasons, although I remember suggestions of using CGI after Nimoy's passing for his parts. Of course, this likely played a part too.

Between First Contact (first warp flight, first contact with aliens), "First Flight" (warp 2 barrier), Enterprise (first starship of deep space exploration), Discovery (Klingon war), Strange New Worlds (Enterprise 1701 before Kirk and friends), what "origin" is left to tell?

There's a huge gap between a half-cut Cochrane playing Ooby Dooby to some Vulcans next to an abandoned missile silo, and the launch of the NX-01, so I disagree that there's no scope for stories in that period.

Whether the film will be any good or not remains to be seen, but in principle it's an unseen and potentially interesting period as a shattered Earth begins to rebuild and take its first steps into the cosmos.

First warp ship, first contact with aliens, warp speed barriers, warp 5 engine, first exploratory starship, all the "big events" have already been covered. I'm not saying there shouldn't be an origin-themed prequel, I'm more asking, what's left to tell that's worth telling?

From Trekmovie.com
It has previously been reported the origin movie will have a new cast for “a prequel focusing on humanity’s early contact with aliens and the formation of the Federation,” and it will be set mostly on Earth. In May Variety reported, “the film is intended as an origin story for the main timeline of the ‘Star Trek’ franchise (rather than the alternate Kelvin timeline, started with 2009’s “Star Trek”).”
Would this not put it as a post-Enterprise?*

I can't imagine it's going to be pre-NX-01, we know that not a whole lot happened during that period.

But, a Mission Impossible like story, set mostly on Earth, during the lead up to the formation of the Federation? I could see it. All sorts of political intrigue and espionage. Perhaps an enemy plot to prevent the formation has to be thwarted by our main characters?

*Excluding TATV

Can't really be Pre Enterprise, if they want to have a ship that gets from here to there in a timely manor.. that was set with the Warp 5 engine. Now you can have them go from A to B in.. Months or Years, then Okay. But poping out for Ice Cream in Alpha Centauri isn't going to work..

A "birth of the Federation" movie is interesting, but... where's the NX-01? Just somewhere else?

If Archer was supposed to be the first President of the Federation, I suspect NX-01 was likely close to retirement by that point. It was the first of its kind, built many years before and had gone through a LOT of hard mileage that probably over-stressed its spaceframe to the point of no longer being space-worthy. His first official act as President was likely to commemorate its decommission to a museum or something.

The ship was in service until 2161 and retired and turned into a museum.
Doesn't really need to involve the NX-01. If TATV is to be believed, we know what they were up to in the lead up to the formation. Presumably this story will involve other, new characters.
Been 20 years since I've seen the episode. What was the NX-01 up to besides rescuing Shran's daughter on the way back to Earth?

If such an origin story were to occur in that time-frame, I could easily see them try to coax Bakula to come back and briefly reprise his role for that very kind of kick-off as President Archer. He could be retiring NX-01 and sending off a new crew in a whole new ship (that isn't named Enterprise).

If we go by the biography seen in In A Mirror Darkly*, Archer wasn't the first President.

*Not really considered canon as it wasn't legible on screen when it was aired.
