Kurtzman intentionally killed Legacy?

I just think they did not bother naming the ship as such because the executive producers envisioned PIC as a three season show with Patrick Stewart at the helm. Instead of a five season show that not just deconstructs the character of Picard, and examines his legacy and the burden his legacy leaves others.

Sir Patrick is 84.

The matter of him being able to physically survive a five-season show was questionable.

But maybe, just maybe, Kurtzman has an interest in seeing the franchise grow beyond being self referential fanwank that Legacy would be.
So you'd rather have Kurtzman-wank instead. Paramount wants Legacy. Skydance wants Legacy. The fans want Legacy. Only Kurtzman doesn't want it b/c his galaxy-sized ego is offended. Unfortunately, the rather predatory contract Paramount was forced into by Secret Hideout apparently has ruinous clauses that basically put SH in the driver's seat for the forseeable future, and the copyright laws will ensure that they can basically gut any attempt at continuing any of their shows (SNW. LD, etc) without them.

A broken clock is more reliable than that dweeb.

Good god, seriously? If Paramount actually wanted Legacy, it would already be a thing. If not actually in production, than at least greenlit. Skydance is not yet in a position to make demands on the franchise, but if they were and they wanted Legacy, same deal, it would already be happening. Meanwhile, what fans want Legacy? The Matalites want Legacy, but they are a vocal minority and do not represent the entire fandom.

Well, I guess my days of not taking you seriously have reached a middle.

Hate to break it to you, but that idiot has pretty much been wrong about pretty much everything he's ever said about anything, dispite what his "inside sources" have told him.

If someone's livelihood depends on clickbait, they're not a reliable source of information.

Oh, shit, I only just noticed the video was a Sci Trek video. That's the source on the whole "Kurtzman is denying Paramount Legacy" thing? The same guy who has been insisting a Stargate reboot is "imminent" for over two years now?

Keep fucking that chicken.

EDIT: The thumbnail spells Skydance "Skaydance"

On the subject of abusing poultry, why does anyone remotely interested in Legacy have to be part of a weird cult?

Did everyone who wanted a Captain Pike spinoff bow to altar of Viscount Akiva, or something?

I must've missed these precious BBS memos :p

Probably because nobody has put Goldsman up on a pedestal and claimed that he's the Savior of Star Trek.

Nobody has seriously claimed that He and He alone stood against the Forces of evil (Kurtzman) and produced the single greatest season of Star Trek.

Yeah, SciTrek has no inside sources. And no one seems to be able to explain how Picard season 3 even got made if it weren’t for Kurtzman. Everybody always has to have their boogeyman.

I have seen a few people saying he's the only one who has made "real" Star Trek because it's optimistic and episodic again, but I guess I understand your point.

It just seems unfortunate to treat those who are, at the very least, marginally interested in a Legacy-type show as a cultist monolith. Like it's a totally black and white situation where we only want that and nothing else.

I'd intricately carve a birchwood relief of Terry Matalas as the messiah if it helps make more Trek possible, but there's far more interesting things to do with my time, and other shows to watch.

SciTrek's "sources" also said that Sony was going to buy Paramount (even I knew that was not going to happen).

Take him and his sources with a front-end loader full of salt.

Up until now, no one has been sure who was going to own Paramount this coming year (there was also last year's actor's/writer's strikes).

Whatever happens, it's not going to happen tomorrow. Those of us on the campaign understand that (It took three years to bring Strange New Worlds to the airwaves. It's taken SIX YEARS to bring Starfleet Academy and Section 31 to air.

Part of it is just a little bit of fun, but a lot of it is to simply push back againt things like this very thread.

There is a vocal minority of fans out there who feel like they represent the fandom as a whole. They genuinely seem to view Alex Kurtzman as some egotistical madman that is hell-bent on destroying Star Trek and will stop at nothing to achieve his goal. They created this narrative that it was Terry Matalas who finally pushed back, and against all odds, produced REAL Star Trek.

These people are to be mocked.

Midnight's Edge types and the like? Yeah, I fully understand. There's no justification for peddling nonsense and it's worth fighting back.

It unfortunately started with Season 3 and calls for "Terry Trek" but people around the fandom. Probably not the majority (based on what I've read here and elsewhere) but vocal enough and persistent enough with the "real Trek" lines to be quite frustrating and repetitive. Even had a T shirt!

I have zero issue with Legacy as an idea. I have a huge issue with the "THIS IS THE ONLY WAY" attitude that was presented regarding Season 3 and Terry Matalas. That's my biggest frustration, as well as the very black and white presentation of "people either want lore or just entertainment."

I get it. This is a fandom. This is a passion for many, but the insistence that Season 3 was the best thing ever and the only way to make Star Trek rubs me wrong for many reasons.

You are missing the idea.

They could have continued the show without Sir Patrick, if they wanted to. But still dealt with the legacy of Picard. Picard has to have a galactic wide reputation doesn't he, considering how many first contacts he's ushered in, his involvement with the Klingons, and his faceoffs with the Romulan Cardassians and Ferengi? And the lessons he's taught his crew. And even within PIC, Seven has that connection with Picard from being assimilated and sees how he's the face of Starfleet in the face of phobia towards Xbs. Raffi saw him as a mentor, and Jack's obviously the heir to the legacy. The synth ban was lifted becuase of Picard. the Jurati Borg are around becuase of Picard.

But the executive producers seem very stuck on the idea that they cannot continue a show without the lead. Even though that's not true. NCIS has been doing okay after Gibbs left the show, after all.

Seven of Nine and Raffi Funkos have sold out at StarTrek.Com

A salivating fandom doesn't get any more in-your-face than that. #Saffi #SaffiNation

There's also Better Call Saul (the show I've often compared a potential Legacy series to).

It did great without having Walter White's shadow looming over it.

ETA: Seven and Raffi are now available again for pre-order:

I do feel like most of the Legacy-positive people here seem very grounded and diverse in their opinions. Maybe, like myself, not quite in tune to what Matalas had in mind but well meaning nonetheless.

And thankfully, there absolutely are different ways to make Star Trek, which I am grateful for. Newsome's "Parks and Treks" seems very left field, and probably not what Trek traditionalists have in mind, but I'm quite excited for it. I hope its still happening...

Now? Absolutely.

When Season 3 was first airing? No, not as much. And I revisited some of those threads just to check my own memory and figure out when "Terry Trek" became a thing. And it absolutely had this energy of "this is the only way" and "anyone who doesn't like it is wrong."

So, some of the residual jokes around it started from there. Then add in the conspiracy theories that Matalas tricked Kurtzman and made Legacy under his nose and it gets more laughable. Again, I don't mind Legacy in theory, and if people get and get what they want, color me skeptical but hopeful for you all.

But, telling me Season 3 is the only way to do Trek, and Terry fixed Trek? No.
