That is exactly what they did. Patrick Stewart agreed to do three seasons; and after season 3 they discontinued the show.
He and Kathleen Kennedy run the world. The politicians are just puppets dancing on their strings.
I'm trying to square this whole idea that Kurtzman is an evil mastermind who tricked Paramount into forfeiting the rights to Star Trek so that nothing happens in the franchise without his direct say so with the belief that's been circulating prior to now that Paramount is constantly secretly firing Kurtzman but allowing him to continue doing PR work to maintain appearances of being one big happy fleet or something.
So Paramount has the authority to fire a guy whose ring they have to kiss in order to be allowed to produce Star Trek? And YouTubers actually believe that is how the world works?

It's almost like the people peddling these rumors have the ulterior motive of driving clicks to their various videos and websites for the purpose of monetary gain by telling a certain toxic element of the fandom exactly what they want to hear, regardless of any proof to support their claims.
And it's almost like that certain segment of the fandom is so up their own asses on what they believe "real" Star Trek should be, that they'll believe just about anything that supports their views.
Almost.
That's why they try to fire him so they can control Trek again. But his lawyers are too good and trick them in to signing an extension instead of the termination papers.
Kurtzman must be some kinda necromancer, because it sounds like Leonard Maizlish is his lawyer.

The thing that makes me laugh about the Terry Cult is that they all conveniently overlook the fact that he was part of the same writing team that shat out season 2 of Picard, hands down the worst season of Star Trek ever produced in the history of the franchise.

Yeah, I enjoyed Season 3. It was dumb. REALLY dumb. But escapist fanwank fun.
Season 2 was like an enema administered by a nearsighted Katherine Hepburn.
Except the latter at least is a story worth telling twice.
Plus, there's the chance Kate Mulgrew will play Hepburn, so there's your other Trek connection with all this.
No no, you don't get it! Terry was only there for the start, the bit we thought was good even though in hindsight it wasn't! He left to go make the best season of Trek ever!!

This.Reading some of these theories on Kurtzman and his apparently devilish skills of bending a media corporation to his will makes me wonder how he isn't in politics?
