News TOMY Star Trek Diecast Ship Replicas

I would have thought the TOS would have been slightly more popular. My pet theories: 1) last time people thought TOMY was going to take the money and run, because they didn’t know it was a real company and not some fly-by-night operation, now there’s more trust; 2) there have been several refinished 1:350 TOS models over the years, but this is the first refit at a reasonable price-point; and 3) more people buying them for resale since the TOS sells for like 3x its original price point.
There's also folks out there such as myself that prefer the lines of the refit over the TOS version. Don't get me wrong, I've always loved jefferies' TOS-E - it was next-level for the 60's. However, when I saw the TMP refit come into view, the first time I saw it in the theater, I fell in love all over again - it was next-next level. Trumble was a genius to demand a new model for the feature film.

Yeah, the refit is probably my favorite as well, but my thinking was probably colored by how it seems the TOS movie era never has same level of merchandising support as TOS itself, even though TWOK is the holiest-of-holies and people who became fans during that time should be at the prime of their nostalgia and disposable income.

Doug Trumbull was indeed a genius, but the decision to junk the Phase II model and start again was taken by Richard Taylor and Robert Abel well over a year before Trumbull formally joined the project.

I remember this too. I somehow recall he wanted it to be like 17 feet long or something like that, to give it a real sense of scale. The V’ger model was pretty damn big too, IIRC.

With 8 days left, 4493 backers! I think it will cross the 4500 threshold today, if not, this weekend for sure! To boldly go, where no collector has gone before (well, not really, but I just thought it’s cool to say it…)

Thank you TOMY for this. Keep it going. Fans vote with your wallet!

Calling for the Enterprise D next year (it would be awesome if they have the option to do the original and do the Picard version with the different hull and crash landing effect! I would buy both!

Yeah, I'm really hoping for the E-D as well! However, it may be that they are going chronologically since we got the TOS then the Refit. The E-A might be next.

Mmm.. I’m thinking that, if they think they can make money on it, the E-D would be the best bet for the next one. The E-A would just be a simple repaint of the TMP refit they’re doing now. Some folks may get one, but I don’t think it would generate much enthusiasm for those who already got the first one at that price point. The E-B and E-C are really just small (though not necessarily insignificant) footnotes in Trek history. E-D would definitely be next, followed by either a toss-up of the E-E or NX-01. Or we may even see a Reliant or an NCC-2000 baseline Excelsior. Depends on the success of this line as it stands now and the general health of the economy to allow people to feel they have enough disposable income to afford such a luxury. They may even do an online poll to get an idea of what their potential customers may be interested in going forward. Lots of variables and factors to determine the next big thing.

I do look forward to seeing what their artists come up with next. These guys are good. Sadly, I just don’t think I can afford the refit right now, though I would love to. I’ve had the year of hell when it comes to my vehicles and it ain’t pretty. Saving up what I do have for the new FanHome line.

Dang it. You all must be posting at RPF as well. 😂 DOESN'T ANYONE want a TOS or TMP Klingon D7??? They are great looking ships and light up nicely. It would be great to have one next to the Enterprise. Can't the D wait? I would probably pass on it. It won't be 1/350 and my DST Version is good enough. I want them to keep doing 1/350...

So they extended it by 12hrs to 11:59am on 9/16. But we are already at 300% of requirement at $4.2Million and 4 788 backers!! Are they really gunning for 5,000 backer?!

4,902 backers, $4.3M raised (308% of requirement!!) 2 days to go! Their production floor will eventually look like that scene in the TNG episode “Parallels” - Thousands of almost identical Enterprises filling the same space (I know this is the Refit and not E-D, I’m just saying). LOL
