News TOMY Star Trek Diecast Ship Replicas

I think there is a good chance they could do E-D next, but if they want to keep the scale, I can see them doing a D-7, Reliant or maybe even Voyager. Excelsior would be very nice (I really like the STVI design), but it is a hero ship adjacent only.

I think the Refit will get 5,000 backers for sure.

It's rather disappointing that this model is available to customers in the US and Canada only, as I live in the UK. I did try placing an order using a forwarding company's US shipping address (Ship7). But I doubt that payment for the order will be processed successfully. The card I used for the order requires my UK billing address, and so I expect my bank will reject the payment.

I don’t see why that would be the case. Back in the old days with the DeAgostini Star Trek Fact Files, I ordered them with my personal credit card from their UK outlet for direct delivery to Virginia. Yes, there were always delays getting the shipments through the droids in customs, but they always came through.

“It’s dead, Jim”

The campaign is finally over! With 5,420 backers, $4.77M raised at 342% of requirement. 4,831 backers with 1 ship, 445 backers with 2 ships, 163 backers with 3 ships. The total number of ships to be produced will be 6,210!!!

That’s 2,905 backers more than the TOS E campaign (2,515 backers). That campaign had a total of 2,834 ships (2,323 x1, 164 x2, 61 x3). So this campaign is producing 3,376 more ships!

That's great news! Although I probably wouldn't have started that post with "It's dead, Jim". When I saw that, I first thought...

Wait is has now dropped back to 4785.
Perhaps they have only consolidated cancelled orders after it closed?

I think that’s after they ran all the credit cards and dropped those people with bad credit cards?

Possible, my CC was just charged today. I would hope that they contact the customers who's payment bounced to see if alternative methods can be found. That is quite the lost revenue they are facing.

I’m in the UK and decided to order one via a forwarding company. Sure enough my cc declined the transaction. Then TOMY emailed me with a link to retry once I’d sorted the card out. But the link was faulty and didn’t work. So I emailed them reporting this, and instantly got an automated reply saying they were aware the link wasn’t working.

Then today I got another email to say that a new link was coming shortly. Still waiting.

Bit of a carry on. Once it’s sorted all I need to worry about is costly shipping fees, obscene import fees and the ship actually making it to me in one piece. :) But… I think it will be worth it. I’ve always wanted a large scale Trek model, but have no model making skills whatsoever and had been pricing up commission jobs for an Enterprise-E, but this should do the job nicely instead.

Were there perks announced for reaching that milestone or is it just something that was fun to watch?
No, they specifically said there were no stretch goals or other add-ons. Presumably, a larger order means they have more money to invest in the model since their costs are amortized over a larger number of units (what's the joke about mass-production, the first one costs a million dollars, and every one after that costs ten?), so it might turn out to be a little nicer than in the parallel world where they only barely hit their 2,000-unit target, but they haven't said that explicitly.

Yeah, I bet if the TOS ship had made the original target number (ended up around half as i recall) some of its shortcomings may not have happened.
