So Tomy has barely marketed it yet, but they've recently opened up crowdfunding for a 32" diecast (20lbs!) TOS Enterprise replica. Spinning nacelle caps, saucer separation (referenced but never seen during TOS!), lit/articulated shuttlebay, fully lit w/ blinky lights, detailed paint from the original 11 foot model, the works.
Gary Kerr, who consulted on the restoration of the original model at the Smithsonian, worked with Tomy on this and had this to say:
“This model represents the culmination of my 30+ years of research and data related to the studio model,” said Kerr. “The saucer separation capability, designed with input from well-known starship designers, sets this model apart from all previous efforts. The level of detail, saucer separation, working lights, and overall die-cast metal construction demonstrate extraordinary attention to detail.”

It's a nice chunk of change in general, but for what it is, and compared to the prices of similar offerings over the years, that's a downright steal (especially with shipping already included). This kind of finished model is typically priced in the thousands, not the hundreds.
When QMX released their Refit around the same size as this it went for $5000. Chronicle Collectibles was taking orders for a 1701-D 8 inches smaller than this for $2000. HeroCollector's diecast Enterprise kit (also several inches shorter than this), which you have to put together yourself out of 120 boxes, is $1550. This 20 pound finished & lit model is somehow only $100 more shipped than the Playmobil toy.

If these make it to production they're going to end up going for thousands on the secondary market eventually. The problem is just making it to Tomy's required minimum order QTY, which is surprisingly high for a product they are confusingly limiting to US shipping only. I assume the high qty is how they got the price down. Although some international folks are ordering anyway with plans to figure out forwarding later.
It's set to be released in just over a year, although the crowdfunding campaign only has 28 days from today to pass.

For a die-cast model of this size to weight 20 lbs, I wonder how solid or hollow it is.
As far as the crowdfunding, yeah, it seems like they may not meet that goal. 20% of the time has passed and they are up to 12% funding. It's interesting how licensed products get crowdfunded these days. The Hasbro toy company has their own crowdfunding platform for higher-end exclusive stuff, and some interesting-looking things were canceled because they didn't get 100% funding.

Wow - I've been waiting for years for someone to figure out how to do that and have it not be a clunky mess. Now if they could do a version for the refit's doors! :D

Do any videos exist of the doors in motion?

I think only the promo video exists so far, the one that says something about final design possibly differing, and pending licensor approval. It just shows the bay doors wide open.

This is precisely the kind of thing I would spend that money for - and while I would prefer a refit E as I recently got the prepainted Polar Light 1/350 model for the original E, I would like an upgrade to diecast and internal lighting and all. HOWEVER, they won't take my money because I'm in Europe. I do wonder why that choice was made, because there have got to be fans/collectors in Europe and elsewhere that would love to support this in reaching the funding goal. Hm.

Speaking of big 1/350 ships, Hachette is releasing a new Yamato 2205 Hyuga carrier to go along with the Yamato and Andromeda in the same scale. They're monthly subscription build kits, so it would take a lot of time and a lot of $$$ (or Yen) to get these monsters. I really wish I had the money (and the display space) for them, but alas...

Maybe they can extend things
Hopefully. It seems strange to me that the funding period is so short, especially without much of a promotional campaign; however, 5000 isn't really that many units, so maybe if interest peters out at less than 1000 in 30 days, it wasn't going to be viable with a longer run anyway.

My engineering guess is that the model allows the middle section of bay doors to be simply removed, leaving the two side segments in place.
