Does Enterpise-A's short tenure make sense?

From STV [link]:

SCOTT: [...] I think this new ship was put together by monkeys.

It's canonical. The Enterprise-A is a new ship, not a rechristened ship.

"New" is something that the usage of can be argued. Does anyone know the writer/studio intent with the line?

I think we can take Scotty at his word. If he says the Enterprise-A was a new ship, we can be sure it was.

I like the Ambassador. I kind of wish the D looked more like it.

I wish it looked like Andrew Probert's original vision for the class.

What we got onscreen just wasn't epic enough.

That depends on whether you regard Star Trek V: The Final Frontier as canonical ;)

It is. Unfortunately.

I think that if the two ships looked too similar, there would have been some confusion in "Yesterday's Enterprise" as to which ship was which at a distance. That's why I prefer Sternbach's version over Probert's.

Oh, I'm pretty sure the implication was that the A was brand-new. All I'm saying is that it's vague enough to be interpreted differently.

Indeed. The previous owners did not keep up the maintenance

Well at least they fixed all the problems by TUC.

Indeed. Seriously.

I mean, we can't prove that he's not under the influence of Q or Trelane, not himself, and uttering nonsense. If we're not supposed to take him at his word, one may as well argue space madness, which can be argued against anything any character has ever said, ever. If we're not supposed to believe what he says, why should we believe what any character says, ever? And by the way, just what happens to a person's memory, after they've used the transporter a hundred times?

I've honestly always been fine with the Ti-Ho explanation from Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise. Making the 'A' not exactly brand new, but low-mileage.

Well, if you're bothering to read the previous posts, his line can be absolutely interpreted more than one way.
