Season 3 First Look

Not happy with Pelia joking about taking LSD in the show. Young impressionable people still watch this, and her usage isn't portrayed in a negative manner (Spock doesn't reprimand her, M'Benga doesn't order a blood scan and order her not to use it again etc.)

I've had a relative's life recently destroyed by secretly using marijuana (caused schizophrenia). Mind-altering drugs are no joke, yet somehow our media is "winking" about it being fine again, legalization of marijuana and now jokes about LSD. It has no place in Star Trek with one of the "heroes" joking about using it.

Seriously considering canceling Paramount Plus after seeing this. Discovery is over. I'm not invested in Academy and I quit Lower Decks years ago. SNW was the only show I watched and now this pretty poor "joke" about drug use happened and I'm just... I might do a one month thing just to watch S31 movie but other than that...
Pot does NOT cause schizophrenia. Pot is safer than alcohol. (and I don't even use either one.)

Per the Collider interview the Vulcan episode is number 8.
They've broken the pattern. The Vulcan comedy episodes are supposed to be the fifth episodes, as per Spock Amok in S1 and Charades in S2. I now feel betrayed and disillusioned and am preparing a YouTube video explaining how the Trek franchise is now dead to me. After that I'll have to say ten Hail Terrys because, well, you know.

;)

That's yet to be settled last I checked, and there's certainly correlation with developing schizophrenia. Not to mention cannabis-induced psychosis, which can have devastating effects.

It may be safer than alcohol abuse, but that's not a ringing endorsement given the vast negative consequences that has.

My guess is that the clip is from the cold open of the episode. It seems that there is some reactor that is about to blow. So it likely requires super intelligence to solve the reactor meltdown. And perhaps the location is heavily guarded so super strength is required to overcome the defenses. Hence why having the away team be Vulcans with super strength and super intelligence is needed. And I think the revelation that the away team don't change back into human will be the main plot of the episode, ie how to change the away team back plus the comedy of them being Vulcan for most of the episode.

Yeah. There is a big difference between race and culture that this episode seems to ignore. Even if the serum changed them into Vulcans, it just changed their physical appearance, not their culture. Vulcans are not logical and suppress their emotions because of their genes, but because of their philosophy. So changing their genes to make them look Vulcan would not instantly make them act like Vulcans. The Vulcan make up on the characters is really over the top IMO. Plus, they really go overboard with the stereotype of the Vulcan being super logical, with the characters saying "this is logical" every 5 seconds. And yes, it is bad how they make fun of Spock for being half-Vulcan and they act like they are full Vulcan despite the fact that they only look Vulcan because a magic serum, they were not born Vulcan. The clip is bad.
Yes, it does look like they might be embracing the comedy a bit too much while tossing the, ahem, logic out the window.

There might be some McGuffin like a computer chip that programs their psychology but there needs to be some connectivity with later TOS and TNG episodes where surgical techniques are used instead.

They seem to be sailing close to Antosian transformation techniques and they drove Garth insane.

I wonder how much meaning that even has these days? I guess there are standing sets that can be shot for relatively low cost. But don't go into engineering. That's gotta be pricey. I don't look forward on the bridge either.
Not much. But it looks like a ship based episode, so no planetside stuff and possibly no guest stars. I imagine engineering is a standing set and the VR part is archived to use again and again. The Comic Con interview on Collider touches on this with Meyers and Goldsman.

It's a nice light hearted scene which features most of the cast and doesn't give away any significant spoilers for the season. Why shouldn't they have used it?
Because without context it makes it seem like the writers don't understand Vulcans or how hair works, it has the crew being really mean to Spock for no apparent reason, and it doesn't seem to have gone over well with the fans.

Let me guess, you'd prefer the complete briefing room scene in which the characters discuss the plan on how to rescue the Tellarite ambassador?
