Season 3 First Look

As someone who knew people who were damaged by drugs, including one seriously damaged by LSD, I thought it was amusing. It was way better than the god-awful just-say-no/public service announcement-like scene between Wesley and Tasha in "Symbiosis."

Pelia is immune, so she is unharmed, more immune than Scotty was (is/will be?) to the effects of Scotch.

Should it be necessary, I'd imagine that one hypo shot is all it would take to bring someone tripping on acid safely down. Maybe also a session or two with Dr. Noel or whoever is the ship's shrink.

They encounter harsher substances on a weekly basis, it would seem.

I see this is going well

Everyone has been through something that gets mentioned or joked about in movies or TV. If we expect creatives filter through that lens, we'll have nothing to watch but children's television.

My wife was burned in a house fire, but I'm not asking TV and movies to not throw a joke in there because it triggers a really awful memory or pushed my wife's PTSD button (she's fully healed BTW).

As for kid's getting a bad message from this clip, they're more likely gonna laugh at the goofy antics rather than look into the quick dialog.

I mean, there are many children's programs I really enjoy and even watch things like Bluey, or Arthur with my kids. My wife and I were waxing nostalgic over Wishbone, or Magic School Bus.

I'm often blown away at how dismissive people are over "children's shows."
I sometimes see Bluey while I'm at the gym and it's very cute. I adored Wishbone. I even have a little stuffed one!

Captain Kangaroo, particularly back in the days of the original "Treasure House" set, was at least as good as most shows targeted at adult audiences.

And so was Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

I grew up on Captain Kangaroo, but I didn't discover Mister Rogers' Neighborhood until I was at least a junior in high school.

If that actually happens, when the grading thread comes out, it won't get lower than an 8. What we percieve now as Spock being the butt of the joke might end up having a lasting impact for the rest of the crew to stop making him the butt of the joke.
At least until the crew turns over and McCoys shows up

Not happy with Pelia joking about taking LSD in the show. Young impressionable people still watch this, and her usage isn't portrayed in a negative manner (Spock doesn't reprimand her, M'Benga doesn't order a blood scan and order her not to use it again etc.)

I've had a relative's life recently destroyed by secretly using marijuana (caused schizophrenia). Mind-altering drugs are no joke, yet somehow our media is "winking" about it being fine again, legalization of marijuana and now jokes about LSD. It has no place in Star Trek with one of the "heroes" joking about using it.

Seriously considering canceling Paramount Plus after seeing this. Discovery is over. I'm not invested in Academy and I quit Lower Decks years ago. SNW was the only show I watched and now this pretty poor "joke" about drug use happened and I'm just... I might do a one month thing just to watch S31 movie but other than that...
But excessive use of alcohol is fine for the kiddies to watch?

Honestly? Same. Someone very close to me went through rehab, but before he could get in because of a waiting list, he tried to cut down with our help. We hid his drugs (and I am definitely not talking about weed here) from him and have him small amounts at set times over a few weeks, lowering it all the time. And that little joke from Pelia is as harmless to me as the jokes this person now makes about his very bad substance abuse.
