Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

Last thing before I hit the hay... Fixed the registry tag on the upper saucer. It was bugging me -

Defo more tomorrow.

First, sorry to hear about the funeral and the hospital. I hope you are doing well enough under circumstances.

My first thought was, windows to big? But looking back and forth, yeah the second version makes her look bigger. And more majestic. Well done.

Thank you!

Thank you... rather busy time at the moment. The funeral is on Friday, so am trying to keep myself as busy as I can. Hospital... was fun, as always. Tests, tests and more tests. Results are pending. I swear they are taking enough blood out of me to make another person though.

Windows... Yeah, the old ones were 1.5 meters in height, which is a bit big, lol. Teach me to check before I cut them in. Not happy with the current arrangement on the saucer rim, so that is going to change when I get a crack at it. Also going to lighten the textures a bit more, maybe tweak them to be a little more on the "blue" range of things. It's more a reddish grey at the moment. I need to work on that.

Anyway, back home. Having a break, enjoying "The Thing" in 4K, and then we shall see...

Updates - not much has changed, except for the saucer rim windows, and the textures. Lots of mesh errors fixed and some missing detail added to areas I thought I'd finished. Shifted the colour scheme to be more towards the blue end of the spectrum - which I think captures the right colour for the ship. Fixed an issue with the deflector dish displaying the wrong texture map, and started building up detail on the secondary hull.

A question for you all; should I add an aft torpedo launcher?

More later (after a break)

Hm....
I do not recall any version of the Connie ever showing a aft torpedo launcher, but I say why not? It makes sense to have one, right?

The Defiant in In a Mirror Darkly had aft torpedoes. From Memory Alpha:
According to Bonchune, the location of the aft torpedo launcher on the CGI model of the Defiant was "the little round port right between the impulses engines. We tried to make it logical with what existed so we didn't have to make a new hole on the ship. Everyone agreed, except that apparently if you frame by frame it, they actually come from the hangar bay phaser mounts. Someone in the chain either decided against it or didn't know. Even one of the writers was surprised it hadn't been done as discussed."

Perhaps one on the neck, where the others are? Might make sense from a storing/loading torpedo standpoint.
I had considered that, it makes logical sense... The geometry would work. I shall have a play around.

As for the question of whether it should have one or not - Ent "In a Mirror Darkly" confirms that the TOS Defiant had aft torpedo launcher(s) - so at least one pre-refit Constitution had them, and as this is an intermediary step between TOS and TMP I think it makes sense that Starfleet might add them to the ship. When it came to the TMP refit, it may well have been dropped.

Just some thoughts.

More later.

The Defiant in In a Mirror Darkly had aft torpedoes. From Memory Alpha:

I think the VFX/CG animators made the right call moving the Defiant's aft torpedo launcher to above the hangar bay. Could you imagine overheating impulse engines cooking off photon torpedoes in their magazine or armed in the tube if the launcher was in the impulse engine area?

Edit: The argument that they picked the impulse engine is that they didn't want to make a new hole on the ship doesn't make sense. The TOS Enterprise had no visible torpedo launcher ports. It just sounded like they wanted an excuse to put the launcher there when they really didn't need an excuse.
