Alien, Predator, AvP (news)

Yeah, and often defeating a Predator is as much about brains as brawn
Arguably always. Though some encounters have required the ability to take some pretty hefty physical abuse before the winning move. ;)

This is true, and while Dutch won in the end because he was smart, he did have to do a lot of hard manual labour to set all his traps up!

I guess the other example to consider is Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, she's the same kind of build as Fanning and did a decent job convincing in the action scenes.

I guess as well that this film might be more of a team vs Predator in the finale rather than a one on one fight.

its for Badlands, the supposedly "Future" set movie.. so maybe she's like Charlze Theron in Prometheus, a office drone thrown into some shit.. but who knows..

I'll admit..... I'm curious.

Looks like the original movie with big special effects.

Why would i want to watch a remake of a perfect movie ( and without Sigourney Weaver)?

Because you haven't seen the movie and are judging it in advance without any knowledge? I mean.... I dunno. The non-prejudice thing to do would to be form an opinion after the fact.

The description of the trailer / movie on the YouTube link says:

“Alien: Romulus” takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.

That's literally the plot of Alien. "Taking the franchise back to its roots" seems to also mean they're remaking / rebooting the first. Granted, they could throw in something about *where* he Xenomorph comes from, but I think that was beaten to death in the previous films (only saw Prometheus).

So, yeah. No thanks. I liked this movie in 1979.

Weirdly I thought it looked more like Aliens than Alien.

Looks great to me, but @Mage is right (whichever way you lean) it's just a trailer. The film might be awesome, it might be shite. The proof of the pudding and all that...

But at the moment I'm excited.

Also, language nitpicker here, it's not the plot of this new movie, either. It's the story, the who, what and where. The plot is how it plays out, the how, when and why.

That said, I think to remember reading something recently where somebody involved with Romulus described it as a mix of Alien and Aliens.

Looks pretty cool, definitely much more of full on horror movie than we've gotten from the franchise in a while.
Sure it looks a little closer to the original, but it looks different enough for me that I'm willing give it a shot.

No it isn't. The crew of the Nostromo were not young colonizers, and they weren't scavenging, and they weren't on a derelict space station.

My bad, the exchange of some insignificant details makes it a completely new and original movie.

So it's a young colonist crew instead of a seasoned freighter crew, check ( gotta get those young hot actors some jobs in the hope one or more turn out to be a future big star).

They're scavenging instead of checking up on an alien derelict spaceship - ok, ingenious new idea and completely engaging.

They check out a derelict space station instead of a derelict alien spaceship - wow.

Excuse the snark, it was not meant to be an attack on you but the entire trailer just screams a been there, done that already vibe. At least the trailer for Star Wars Force Awakens hid it better that it was a basic rehash of the big elements of Star Wars: A New Hope that JJ Abrams liked best.

I'll wait for initial reviews but i have zero hope this will bring something new or unique to the Alien franchise and i certainly don't plan on spending money on it. If they can make something that isn't the old "people encounter Aliens and die one by one unti the main hero defeats it in a final battle" i'm out.

Alien established the whole thing and while its central story wasn't that new to the horror genre it did it extremely well. Aliens expanded on this formula by including some big ass iconic action, Alien 3 went back to the well and did it poorly and the rest i can hardly remember ( at least Prometheus and the others after tried to expand the lore).

There was only one other after Prometheus, and that was the one that involved colonists as main characters. So they've done colonists for two films in a row.

Yeah, you know I feel like we are just covering old ground here. It looks exciting and all but so did Alien Covenant. I need to be sold on the story because Aliens killing people in a gory manner is not enough for me.

I'm confused I thought it was supposed to be a tv show?
That's a separate project which is due in 2025.

If you hadn't used the word "literally" I wouldn't have had cause to reply. ;)

Only i didn't say literally but we're splitting hairs now ;)

This reaction video and the comments after "literally" sum up my view on it. Hollywood has become meh. In the age where even non heavy-CGI movies cost 100+ million they're making safe movies and especially with franchises they are trying to appease the crowd that used to love the original movie(s) by stepping into well worn tracks. This is the major vibe i get off the trailer and what's putting me off.

I'm expected to shell out nearly 15-20 Euro ( don't know current ticket prices as i haven't been to the movies in ages) + at least that for simple snacks+drink to see a movie i've already seen just with modern effects? Thank's, i'll be waiting a couple of months for the streaming version.

I just wish studios would become bolder with stories, even with expensive movies like these. Yes, you may land flat on your nose with that attempt like they did with Prometheus but maybe invest just a little chunk of that triple digit budget and get a top writer who will take the franchise in a new direction the audience hasn't seen for the xth time.

Yeah....

Reaction video's based on trailers that are mostly clickbait to gain revenue for channels are not something I'm going to waste time on.
At the end of the day, you've basically formed an opinion based on 2 minutes from a movie that is probably going to be about 120 minutes. Plus, trailers these days are created by external companies, who are given some scenes and the directive to make it feel a certain vibe. Horror in this case.

I'd like to eat my words because i want to see a good Alien movie, the trailer just does nothing to indicate it will be so. We'll see when it comes out and reviews are released by people who have seen it. Until then it's my opinion based on the trailer that's supposed to give me a general idea about the movie and entice me to watch it, which it didn't.
