Is it? Your post is #197 on page 10 of the thread. For PIC3 episode 8 post #197 was also on page 10. Though the first five pages were about arguing over posting spoilers. Over on SNW post #197 is again on page 10 for Season 2 ep 8. So, the conversation seem to be developing at a pace.
The conversation seem fairly typical. People wondering about character X's whereabouts. People who love it. People who hate it. Continuity nickpicks. The acting. The writing. The usual smorgasbord
Given that each page has 20 posts, post #197 will always be on page 10 of a thread!

The number of votes by episode that someone posted was pretty interesting though. Obviously not representing anything other than this BBS though.

That was me. Someone else mentioned about the lack of engagement of this episode, and it got me thinking about the polls for each of them. Many of the voters likely didn't even comment on the thread, just voted. But that in itself is engagement because it's voicing your vote on how you rate the episode.

And while I do agree it is only representative of this site, it does make you wonder if it's a microcosm of how people view DISCO in general.

You beat me to it. But in my defense I was wasting time on an expanded version. ;)

This might be more of a question for the Voyager forum, but I always wondered why, of all the places in the galaxy, would the Caretaker look for potential mates in a place that most people would likely avoid if they could? Like the Caretaker was really worried about having plausible deniability when starships went missing, so he had to take ‘em from the Badlands so no one would suspect him.

I do wonder if there are tiers to engagement now, kinda like the way people interact with news?

There are people who watch/read news reports and spend most of the day with their TV on Fox News or CNN. And then there’s people that know of something happening because they watched a 2 minute clip on YouTube or TikTok.

I’m guessing same dynamic might apply to genre shows. There’s a level of engagement where “fans” watch a show on the regular and feel passionate enough about it to seek places like here to discuss it. The more popular the show, the larger that group is, where if it becomes a phenomenon in pop culture like Game of Thrones then there’s a good chance most people who engage with it are watching it.

But I think there’s probably a group of people who only watch clips and maybe read the episode summaries. There’s the people who do that just to be pissed at what they don’t like. But I also think for some series that people may feel “ok” about or don’t see it as “must see” but still like it in theory they may watch it piecemeal too. I’ve seen those kind of comments for some series because people want to know if it’ll be “worth it” to binge at some point. So they follow it but they basically watch the big moments of the show in clips the same way people know a big news story from a sound bite.

The Caretaker searched all over the galaxy. The Badlands is just one location that ships were taken from.

From the Pilot...

NEELIX [on viewscreen]: A very impressive title. I have no idea what it means, but it sounds very impressive.
JANEWAY: Do you know this area of space well, Mister Neelix?
NEELIX [on viewscreen]: I am famous for knowing it well. How may I be of service?
JANEWAY: Do you know anything about the array that's sending energy pulses to the fifth planet?
NEELIX [on viewscreen]: I know enough to stay as far away from it as possible. Wait. Let me guess. You were whisked away from somewhere else in the galaxy, and brought here against your will.
JANEWAY: Sounds as though you've heard this story before.
NEELIX [on viewscreen]: Sadly, yes. Thousands of times. Well, hundreds of times. Maybe fifty times. But the Caretaker has been bringing ships here for months now.
JANEWAY: The Caretaker?

You ever been nodding off reading a book, forget where you are up to, try to start reading and nod off again, only to eventually realize that you read the same page 6 times?

Caretaker is senile.

Week to week, its likely that he can't keep track of whence he's been curb trawling for baby mamas.

Gave this a 7 despite the fact I was expecting to vote lower based on the preview and some of the early responses (I didn't see the ep until today). I do agree that someone other than Book could have been better to serve the personification role for the test. Byt quite who, I dunno, but probably Spock.

The other day I thought 10 pages and 199 posts was pretty much par for the course here, though I don't pay too much attention to it. Now that I have, there have been 151 posts here since then in less than 2 days.

But again, it's hard to overcome people's perception biases.

Works for me. It looks pretty consistent from "For the Uniform" onward.

I think most people complaining forgot and have how it looked in "Caretaker" stuck in their head.
The DS9 version looked less "fake" but they sadly used fire as the standard look and I kept thinking of flames in space. I thought that was a misstep. The Discovery version makes it look unique, so my favorite one so far.

I gave it a 7. I liked the idea and the librarian was adorable. But it seems like it would have fit the theme more if the test was about proving she wouldn't use it to wage war with the Breen which could have tied back to the decisions she made in season 1 with the Klingons. Having the test be a therapy session instead didn't land right.

I’m looking forward to talking DSC later on today at 9 PM BST (UK) / 4 PM EDT (US). Link will be here.

Come one, come all!

I am glad to see that engagement ticked up.
I don't want DSC to fail. There's a lot I like about it. Plus, I want more star trek in general. So when a show does well, whether it's my favorite or not, that's good for everyone.
And weirdly despite being a prequel Disco is the least nostalgic show which is something that I really want Trek to get away from.

I actually think one of the biggest let downs 32nd century Disco has been in my opinion insecure the attempts at nostalgia like having a season based on a TNG story full of Breen and badlands or Galactic Barriers and Guardians of Forever.

Let Lower Decks be Lower Decks and do your own thing.

Yeah. It would be nice to actually make NEW species.
Really, the only one we got from Discovery was Kelpians.
I don't mind expanding on aliens that haven't had any development (The Gorn, the Breen), but I was hoping for something a little more alien from the Breen than squishy Klingons.

I have found the art direction to be a let down on Discovery recently. It all seems a bit generic. Weirdly enough humans with different nose ridges seems less generic than the various orcs and goblins we have gotten (Kelpians and 10c the exception)
