Star Wars Books Thread

Do the comic adaptations of the Disney+ series add anything worthwhile or are they just straight translations of the series to comic form?

Can you give an example of what you're talking about, JD? I can remember comic series based on a couple of the Thrawn novels but not any directly based on a Disney+ show.

Jody Houser did a good job with those Thrawn adaptations and other Star Wars comics, so the Obi-Wan adaptation is probably pretty solid. I would read a sample to get a feel for how it was done first.

I just saw a few pages of the Obi-Wan comic adaptation online recently because people were complaining about the art. I can't speak for the story I guess, but the art of the Obi-Wan adaptation is 100% just traced screenshots from the TV show, its hilariously shameless. Here's a good example (just linking to reddit because this is where I saw it)

Regardless of the specifics I personally would never spend money on something that looked like this.

I really have no interest in seeing an exact recreation of a show I've already seen in comic form. The only thing that appeals to me would be new scenes or other stuff that wasn't in the show.
I would be more interested in novel adaptations though, since that's taking some that wasn't just prose and adding visuals we couldn't in the novels.
For me it's all about getting stuff that we didn't or couldn't get in what they are adapting, if there's nothing new, it just seems kind of pointless to me.

Star Wars High Republic Temptation of the Force coming out in June 11. Right before my birthday June 13. The book will be a nice birthday present to myself

I believe this is the last phase of The High Republic, and if it is do we know yet if they might be doing something else similar once it's over? Maybe something set in a different era?

I don't think anything's been announced yet, but I'd be very surprised if something else isn't at least in the planning stages.

well for now, HIgh Republic Temptation of the Force is coming soon in June. Good enough for me since its right before my birthday anyway.

Besides that its all re-release reprtints of older Star Wars novels like a re-release of the old Lando Calrissian Adventures novel that's coming out in June 4th

In 2011, I bought all five of Timothy Zahn's "grand admiral Thrawn" books from Amazon, plus a 20th-anniversary release of Heir to the Empire. I got to meet him at a Dallas convention that same year, and he graciously signed them all for me. I still have them too, though some of the signatures on the front covers have faded (paint pens suck). Thankfully, he signed the inside of each book with a standard pen as well, so the state of the covers don't bother me much anymore. Here's a pic he let me take, back then...

Just for the sake of clarification, do you mean you bought the Heir to the Empire "trilogy", the Hand of Thrawn books, and Outbound Flight?
I know there are more Thrawn books now but they came out after 2011.

I bought both editions of "Heir to the Empire", plus "Dark Force Rising", "The Last Command", "Specter of the Past", and "Vision of the Future".
