A 7 for me, a slightly better episode than last week (gave that one a 6), but not as good as the first two of this season (gave episode 1 an 8 and episode 2 a 9).

Liked the flashbacks and a shame that Lorca wasn't seen, but that actor would only return for a meaningful storyline (and salary) is my guess...

Good to see Airiam again. Burnham vs. Burnham is something I never knew I wanted to see. People have mentioned "Shattered" but this also reminds me a little bit of "Relativity". Rillak's "use 20 words to tell me something not in your file" approach from last week paid off here. Glad to see more of the Burnham/Rayner dynamic and the Stamets/Rayner dynamic.

Before Rayner, I made peace with DSC ending after five seasons. But now, especially after this week, I'm hoping for a Discovery TV Movie down the road or that someone someway un-cancels Discovery later on ("not going to happen!" I know, I know... ) Rayner kicks ass and takes names. I could see him in SFA as a Red Forman type. "I'm going to put my foot in your ass, Cadet!"
Another rocket blast of an episode!

It's ironic they went with segments of history with this episode, because in doing that, they also reminded viewers of a fan favorite season 1 episode, and also covered some ground that felt like a reminiscence of this great series. It made me feel nostalgic, also felt appropriate for what was apparently not intended to be the final season. You couldn't tell. It feels expertly planned.

The moment Burnham met Burnham my jaw dropped open. Not just because we hadn't seen that sort of thing in contemporary Trek, but because we know how much she's changed! Those scenes bring it home, her thought process is so different. Huge props for the writing here. Burnham said she almost forgot how she was in this period, her development was not linear and she did give up at one time...potent reminder.

The time travel shenanigans was not the most original, we've seen those discrete time jumps before, but as a mechanism for character building...wow.

Rayner literally gets to see Discovery's trials and tribulations first hand...all those history making moments. He understands individual traits and has enough information to appeal to those. Discovery has spent time letting Burnham learn things, now it's Rayner's turn. Shaw done right as a fully formed character and not a wild card!

Stamets also is a nice part of the triad. His technical knowledge is helpful, and it's amusing seeing himself constrained by the different time periods and making a wisecrack at his crustier past.

Plusses for mentioning the time war again. We also we get to hear the Krenim were messing around with time weapon-building again. More future world-building. I'm guessing the spiders were some scientists' clever stab at stealth and humor?

L'ak and Moll are turning out to be great antagonists, using intelligence and the means at hand from their work to stay ahead of the Discovery. Who needs a big bad, we have a clever, small bad.

If all this wasn't enough, we have a hint of Calypso as an alternate future. Are the Breen going to side with L'ak and Moll?

I think that one clinches it, it's 10 out of 10. It's not even close to being less than that.

Still processing this one. There were things I absolutely loved about it and some aspects that I felt so time travel cliché even for Star Trek that they annoyed and bored me and deeply. But overall it was still above average for this series and I had a good time, the bugs notwithstanding (no pun intended). I liked the Krenim callback and Rayner's reference to 23rd century Constitution-class starships.

Would have been a perfect opportunity to see Lorca, Ash or Pike again, but the episode was too much fun for that to bother me a whole lot. Crazy how much I missed those early season uniforms. There's always a small part of me that wonders what the show would have been like if they never made the jump to the future. This and SNW running at the same time, being able to crossover every now and then. Ah well, just one of those great Trek "What If's."

Although in that case it helps the two Airiams blend together so now the Sarah Mitich and Hannah Cheeseman versions overlap one another onscreen. Unintentionally convenient!

A few other musings!

Unexpectedly, this was a significantly humorous or light episode at times. Even Rayner takes some part with dry humor.

I forgot to mention Airiam...what a gut punch in addition to Burnham having to face herself.

They used a Burnham musical theme from season 1.

When Burnham met Book the feeling of wanting to stop and have a safe space was palpable.

A few moments reminded me of Yesterday's Enterprise. At this point in so many time travel episodes something will remind of us of other episodes.

The clip for next week looks awesome.

Gave this episode a 7, like the first two. Nice to get back to a fun story after last week's dud.

This seemed like a variation on the escape the time loop premise. Nice to have a different take. Fun to see the various time periods from the show's past.

Burnham meeting her former self was a great touch.

Not really a lot to this story though. It does move Raynar's character arc forward rapidly. Maybe too quickly. He seems like a total convert to Discovery's way of doing things. Most of the rough edges are sanded off. I suspect he'll still retain a few rough edges and one will help save the day eventually.

One final point. The way Burnham used Airiam's death to convince the others didn't ring true. Sacrificing oneself to save the rest of the crew seems to be Starfleet's standard operating procedure! You'd believe most any Starfleet officer would do that, so not a convincing way to make a point!

Ok..I have to say.... Discovery, being my least favorite Trek show. I can be very opinionated about it. But this episode is probably my favorite so far of the entire series. Stamets got a lot to do and it was well thought out. Almost felt like a self contained episode.

Going to give it a 9 out of 10.
