I didn't notice it simply because 80% of the screen is covered in Abramsverse lens-flare! 
They've done that before though and it didn't end up in the episode. In the trailer for DSC "Battle at the Binary Stars", the USS Europa is shown with its name and registry in the TOS font... only to be changed for the episode.
They changed 80% of the Discovery's design between the teaser and the first episode
That one grinded my gears quite a bit just because like... WHY? Oh hey, a neat nod to TOS that in absolutely no way negatively affects anything and looks perfectly fine.

I know this is a reply to an old post, but the Discovery orthos from Meshweaver have since been mirrored on the Set Blueprint Archive.
At least one shot of a ship using the TOS font did make it into the final episode. It looks like it was a very late decision not to go with it. There's also the EM model of the Yeager-class, and some key art of the Discovery from just before the series premiere.

This ship has an artefact which contains

the notes of a Romulan scientist who was present in The Chase and kept researching the Progenitors. Might even be that Commander who told Picard at the end that "One day..."

It really sounds exciting. And it's cool to see a classic Trek ship.
We’ve known about the ship for even longer, as it was in a teaser clip released last year.
