Spoilers The struggle to care about the season 5 premiere

I'm neither struggling to care or pumped. The season is just there. I'm just waiting for it to air.

Season 4 killed my interest in DISCO because they just go, "Oh and the Federation is rebuilt."

Like...what?

The new premise of the show is just over?

It was established that before the Burn, the Federation got too big. T’Rina said so herself.

Maybe the Federation is deliberately being kept small this time, to not repeat the mistakes of the past.

This is how I feel as well. Rewatching Discovery recently, I realized that I just like the other series better. There were good things about Discovery, but it's not something I would go back to rewatch every year, at least not like Lower Decks or Prodigy or the older series. I hope the final season is good, and I'm happy they are not doing a universe ending thing. I think it deserves a nice closure, but right now I'm neither excited nor not excited for it. I'll watch the episodes and hopefully they are good.

I watched a recent podcast of Robert Meyer Burnett's show on YouTube. (Yes, I know the feelings that people have towards him. Let's acknowledge that and not try to derail the discussion.) He said that he had seen the first five episodes of the season and described it as

a sequel to TNG's sixth season episode "The Chase". I don't see how there could be a sequel to this episode; however, I am kinda interested in how this season will tie into this episode. He did mention something which sounds, well, very stupid and I hope he is just exaggerating.

Burnett said there was an avalanche on a planet. To stop this avalanche, two starships, including the Discovery, literally slammed into the planet's surface, protected only by their shields.

Overall, well, if you know Burnett, you can probably guess his reaction to this season. 'Nuff said.

Interested but not hyped. I expect DSC's usual weak points such as overstretching the great mystery of the season and getting very emotional (at inappropriate moments). I hope the stakes won't be set too high, the show could benefit from the lower number of episodes.

Never heard of him, had to do a quick check.

If MA isn't totally misleading here, we don't need to talk about feelings, just facts. This guy's ramblings are about as interesting as a flat Earther's opinion on climate change. He collaborated with fricking Midnight's Edge who came up with the infamous "25 % different" nonsense. They dared to violate his head canon.

His idea of scientific plausibility is also adorable, I mean everyone misses those good old times when Trek was basically hard science fiction. The following refers to the space orchids from PIC's 1st season but you get the point, replace them with the spore drive or whatever:

The list only scratches the tip of the iceberg of classic Trek's massive amount of outright space magic, technobabble, and other "liberties." Discovery brings up real things like binary black holes and ergospheres occasionally, which is essentially the highest level of scientific accuracy the franchise ever achieved just like TNG sprinkling it with pulsars, neutron stars etc.

Conclusion: Robert Meyer Burnett, a totally unbiased and serious reviewer.

You do realize this qualifies as a spoiler, right? I'm not personally affected, but other people probably want to know as little as possible and this thread has no spoiler tag, so you should edit your post.

To be fair, that particular bit of information is already widely known about the season anyway.

That's been confirmed. A Romulan from The Chase left notes in that mystery box that they find in the old science ship, and it leads them to the Progenitor's homeworld.
So better add a tag there :shifty:

Better safe than sorry. You can't make that decision for everyone whether i'ts "widely known" or not, it's not like it takes an awful lot of effort to hide bits of info.
It's literally the headline on some websites, that makes it a safe bet to say it's "widely known" to me. And really, anyone who wants to go in so clean that hearing the season might be a sequel to something is considered too much is probably better off staying off the internet in general.

I strongly disagree, just because some shitty clickbait websites do that it doesn't mean it's all right. With some common sense you can usually avoid spoilers without staying off the internet. This forum does have rules concerning spoilers? Mods have to decide.

Well, I didn’t know about that particular spoiler and I certainly haven’t seen it being mentioned in any headline on either TrekCore or TrekMovie, the sites where I take my Trek news from. So it’s a bit disappointing to be learning about it in advance like this. Is it so hard to spoiler code this stuff?

Indeed, yes. I don't keep up on news, rumors or otherwise. The most actively I've sought information on Season 5 was whether I not Rayner had pointed ears. The rest I've pretty much ignored even being on.the internet, here and other Trek discussions.

I don't usually care about spoilers but feel the use of the spoiler code should be used very liberally.

Well you missed the Targ goes wild scene on Risa then?

I'm sort of in-between. It feels a long time since we last had new Star Trek, so that's good, but whilst I rate DSC highly, it's not a show I go crazy over. None of the shows I’m crazy about are Star Trek shows.

Paramount asked for the preview reviews to be spoiler free. Some sites didn't follow that.

I discovered his presence from this board as well. I've seen nothing in recent years to give me any interest in his opinions.

Don't Encourage him by giving him views and clicks.
