Batman-Superman Film in the works?

It'd be a two minute fight, so long as Superman took the kid-gloves off.

Even with the kid-gloves Superman's got a strong edge by being, you know, invincible.

You've CLEARLY never read The Dark Knight Returns, or whichever Frank Miller book it was in which they fought.

Being invincible doesn't change that fact that it would be supergenius vs farmboy.

Probelm is, the fight is always going to be biased towards whomever the writer is the big fan of. "The Dark Knight Returns" is obviously, judging from the title, biased towards Batman so obviously he's going to do better.

I could write a book called, "The Man of Steel Returns!" and have Superman use Batman as pogo-stick.

In "reality" Superman vastly out-powers Batman. Superman is an invincible, super-strong, super-smart, alien from another planet who has a *single* weakness in the very rare kryptonite. Unless Batman gets ahold of some (granted not out of his abilities) he doesn't have a chance. No tool or weapon he has is going to penetrate Superman's skin or move faster than him and no punch he throws Superman is going to feel as anything more than a tap on the shoulder. There's *nothing* Batman can do to bring down Superman, again, short of getting ahold of Superman's one weakness and some may argue that'd be fighting dirty, which Batman wouldn't do.

It wouldn't be a fair fight. All Superman has to do is super-speed up to Batman and break his arms, or eye-vision a streetpoll on to Batman, or use his super-breath to either blow Bats away or freeze him. Superman is just too much. Hell, if he sees Batman coming at him with Green-K all Superman has to do is fly or run away at near the speed of light -at his fastest.

Nah. A "true" Batman vs. Superman can never be done "right" and it wouldn't make sense anyway. I'd much rather see them teaming up to ight a common foe it's truer to the comics and much closer to their respective natures.

Agreed. People get too caught up in having the two characters go up against each other because it would be "kewl." I'm far more interested in seeing the two characters working together, like you said.

I agree with some of your points, but their is no canonical evidence that Superman is "super-smart".

Also, Batman has NO problem fighting dirty, as his numerous run-ins with Supes show.

The other thing is that Superman WOULDN'T see Batman coming. Batman, knowing Clark's capabilities and weaknesses (a fact which is well established in continuity) would never commit himself to a battle where Supes could see him coming. He would probably bide his time and lure him into a trap, or at LEAST a battlefield of his own choosing.

More than anything, Bats would count on Superman judging the situation much as you do.

Blah, blah, blah... "If Batman had time to prepare"-cakes.

;)

 You're right of course. The outcome of the fight would totally depend on the sympathies of the writer.

But that said, remember Batman not only is willing to fight dirty (which Superman is not) he ALWAYS fights dirty.

The guy is a total cheapshot artist, he ambushes his adversaries from above or behind like 90% of the time.

Well, like I said, the only thing Batman could use against Supes is Kryptonite which, depending on the version of Superman I guess, Superman can smell/sense coming miles away.

Let me guess. You've never in your life read a Superman comic?

'Cause guess what. If he fought like this, you would never read any because they'd be boring.

Superman from a literary "action adventure" point of view, is the single most boring character ever created. Pre-Crisis Superman should have had ZERO enemies. Moving at the speeds he's capable of, with the strength he has, and his other powers, wow, it's a wonder anybody can be in a serious debate like this (myself included! :) )

The "Batman wouldn't stand a chance against Superman because of" debate can't ever work with a character like Superman. Because he's the worst written character out there, and always will be. He fights dumb.

My grandmother can fight him and win, the way he's written. Batman, really, would have no problems. It's not a stretch at ALL.

The only stretch is that Superman has any enemies at all, the ones that aren't brilliant like Luthor.

That was introduced by the producers of the film as an injoke. After Batman & Robin the plan was (when Batman 5 fizzled out) to make a new film that would reignite both the Batman and the Superman franchises by pitting them against each other in a pseudo Worlds Finest. It was going to be directed by Wolfgang Petersen and was to be written by Andrew Walker. The frontrunner for Bruce Wayne was Christian Bale but Superman was uncast (the rumor was that Josh Hartnett was in the running but turned them down). Then rumors were that Jude Law would play Superman and that Colin Farrel would be Batman. There were to be a lot of comparisons to 9/11 as Gotham had just been hit by a devastating disaster that pushed Batman over the edge (some rumors said that Batman blamed Superman for what happened).

Warner Brothers squashed the film though because of reshoots of Troy that would have prevented it from being a Summer film.

Tons of actors were rumored to be in the running to play Superman. Nearly all of them were said to have turned it down because Warner Bros. was requiring them to sign on for a 3-picture deal but wouldn't give them script approval on any of the sequels.

Then what ultimately seemed to kill the picture was J.J. Abrams. He reportedly hated the Batman vs. Superman script because he felt that it focused too much on Batman with Superman relegated to basically a cameo. He felt that that was the wrong way to reintroduce Superman to the big screen after a 15 year absence, so he wrote his own epic Superman solo movie. Supposedly, some Warner Bros. executives loved Abrams' script so much that they immediately halted work on Batman vs. Superman to do the Superman movie instead. However, progress on the Superman movie was quickly squashed by devastatingly unfavorable AICN reviews of a leaked script. Supposedly, the Abrams script made radical changes to the mythos such as...
- Krypton did not explode. Rather, it was conquered by some nefarious General Zod-type character named Ty-Zor.
- Lex Luthor was an FBI agent. He was also an alien sent from Krypton by Ty-Zor to find Kal-El.
- Superman died of Kryptonite radiation poisoning while rescuing Lois Lane. Jor-El than killed himself so that he could meet Superman in the afterlife and give him a pep talk to convince him to not be dead anymore.

Despite such unfavorable reviews, supposedly McG & Brett Rattner were both under contract to direct some variation of this script up until Bryan Singer came to Warner Bros. and pitched Superman Returns. The rest is history.

I agree, some form of Batman Superman movie would be awesome. Awesomer still if both Christian Bale & Brandon Routh would agree to be in it. And as it stands, I'll be raising hell if I don't see one in theaters by 05.15.10. (It's similar to my 2015 deadline for seeing the invention of flying cars & hoverboards.)

Oh, I've read plenty. It's been many years, but I've read plenty.

Granted, Superman doesn't fight like this, but talking in hypotheticals here, he's capable of all these things.

Convenenient for your argument, he's all of a sudden going to remember that he has all of these powers at his disposal and use them intelligently?

I'm REALLY not attacking you in any way, I know the internet has a way of masking emotion behind everything said. But this has always been my problem with Superman (again, my problem). He's just not written to his full potential ever, and whenever a debate starts with him and his abilities, all of a sudden, the potential is used in the argument when how many decades of stories go against this.

Now Squirrel Girl. THERE'S a superhero!!

I see where you are coming from.

It's like in Trek v. Wars debates people will pull out The Borg and The Q coming into the battle, even though the great doubt and evidence in the fact that either would come in to fight for the good of The Galaxy.

Yup, exactly!!

I've read about this often enough with superhero debates, I wish I could remember the term for it, when someone like Superman or Thor has all their powers on maximum at the same time and just uses them to win the fight in a blink of an eye, but, there's an actual term used. (You know, like how The Flash should only have 3 panels per book, because all problems would take him that long to resolve, really, or "Hulk will get SO mad that he'll punch so and so to the moon!")

And good call on the bringing Q to the fight against Star Wars example. I honestly think I've used that to end my debates. "Death star". "The Borg". "The Force". "Q!!!"

:)

And now that I'm WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY off topic...

I always enjoyed the "World's Finest" team up the cartoon did many years back. Batman and Superman never really fought. But they one-upped each other in the smarts department, discovering the identities and so on, when looking for each other's help. That was a fun little movie...

Not if the Kryptonite is encased in lead. And how many times did he get it sprang on him when he didn't expect it? What if Batman tossed his bat-arang(or whatever its called) which has rope attached to it that's laced with Kryptonite? And never forget that Lex Luther was Superman's arch enemy and he had NO super powers, yet somehow caused Superman fits.

Agree in that count. I think the audience would flatly reject it. It would be like seeing Captain Kirk in a fight with Luke Skywaker. It just ain't right.

Trekker, get a hold of 'Dark Knight Returns', then get back to us.

IIRC, Supes does win (or does he?), but it sure ain't clear cut. AND you are missing one of the great pieces of literature to come out of comics, the original book that people started using the term 'graphic novel' for.

Heh. Or if you read the Superdickery site, where Kryptonite seems easily obtainable. :D

^ At least in the comics Batman has a Kryptonite Ring. If its the smallville version of Kryptonite then even a piece the size of a pea is enough to kill Clark.

^ Hmm, I accept that. Haven't got around to reading Watchmen, but if it came out 1st, then DKR is another reason for the term.
