Spoilers What If...? season two discussion thread

Weird to announce this now. I would have waited until later today when the season finale comes out

The finale was pretty good but I thought Infinity Stones didn’t work outside of their respective universes.
I’m still waiting for one of these threads to connect to the proper MCU. I feel like they missed a trick with this Strange being the villain in Multiverse of Madness, or having Widow’s reward being that she goes to the MCU.

Considering how the first season concluded, it wasn't much of a surprise the second finale also concluded with a super mashup of the multiverse. Nor was I surprised by the revelation that Strange Supreme was up to no good and had resumed his quest to restore Christine, this time using a MacGuffin Forge fueled by the universe-killers and righteous heroes.

Underneath all of the multiverse slugfest, I loved how the episode tied Peggy's and Strange's romantic griefs together and showed how they approached handling that pain in vastly different ways. I wished the episode explored that aspect of the story a little more, but I liked how during the upper tiers of the fight, Strange tried to manipulate Peggy's grief in order to trap her in a pocket reality. In the end, the last bit of goodness in Strange helped tilt the scales as he finally resolved his own grief.

My only disappointment in the episode is that White Hela wasn't part of the fight and instead we only got classic Hela. But I suppose that would've taken away from what little Kahhori got to do during the episode. I would've loved to seen more of her and Peggy working together beyond the battlefield but perhaps that will happen in a future story. I thought Peggy would finally get happy ending by the end of this season, but the book on her story has been left open. I'm curious to see where it's headed.

It'll be interesting to go back. rewatch the episode, and pick out the plethora of references of universes seen in What If...? and beyond. One thing that brought a smile to my face was spotting the real Maestro in the dogfight (who also lent his weapon along with others during the climax), after I mistook 1602 Hulk for him. I wonder if we'll see his story next season or would it be too similar to Infinity Ultron? I also wonder if this show will ever tie into Loki, especially since Tom Hiddleston has worked on What If...?

They originally said there wouldn’t be a team up fight big bad episode, maybe that’s why the season was so delayed, because someone somewhere decided there should be. And why some stories were delayed to season 3.
Leaks:
There was a leak a while back of some storyboards from this season, it included scenes from an episode with Surtur being unleashed on Earth, not Asgard

That was never said.

I imagine Peggy's story in the third season will have her coming into conflict with Tony Stark (or Nick Fury) over whether or not to capture or kill the Hydra Stomper after Steve Rogers is framed for a terrorist attack that he didn't commit. This will probably bring two separate teams of Avengers at odds with each other. However, that's just a theory.

And, in the comics, Infinity Gems only work in their home universe. That's obviously not the case in the MCU or else the stones assembled by our time traveling Avengers in Endgame would not have functioned.

These last two episode were a nice end to the season.
I always get a kick out of universes that are farther off from the main universe, like 1602. I was trying to figure out if Loki & Thor were just regular humans in this universe. There were no references to Asgard, and the only time we saw either of them use powers was when Thor had the magic sword. Steve as Robin, sorry Rogers, Hood was a fun little twist. I haven't read any of the 1602 comics, but I know enough to recognize that the "future man" in this was the same as in the comics.
I wasn't to surprised by what Strange Supreme was up, after how his introductory episode went, I would have been more surprised if he didn't pull something like this at some point. Peggy's team up with Kahhori was pretty fun.
I really like Kahhori, and I would love to see her pop up in live action sometime. I was looking at the Wikipedia page for Devory Jacobs, the actress who voiced her, and it turns out she also has a role in Echo, so now as far as I'm concerned that character is going to be a descendant of Kahhori.
Was that Loki/Yggdrasil at the end?

Jacobs has already said that the two roles were a coincidence and have no connection with each other.

I really wouldn't mind if they took a year off from Captain Carter and... well, I guess Strange Supreme is done. Having the same character in 1/3 of the stories - good as she is and they are - isn't really what I wanted from "What if...?"

More Kahhori though! If soembody's coming back, I'd love for it to be her. And to see more of her in general, what a great new character. (Although in her episode I did think it was really funny that the baddies turned out to be Spaniards - apparently part of the fall of Asgard was to make Spain go into upstate New York instead of England?)

They said pretty much right off the bat that Captain Carter was going to be recurring throughout. And with her season 1 story mirroring The First Avenger, and her second season episode mirroring The Winter Soldier (and even setting up Civil War), it would be a shame to see the trilogy go uncompleted.

Or France?

Right duh, should have said France too, especially if they wanted to keep the "no English spoken" idea.

But I guess Evil Spanish Conquistadores are more fun. Plus more people know Queen Isabella I guess.

2.8 - It was fun.

2.9 - Didn't do much for me. Actually had the opposite problem of the rest of the season: there just wasn't enough story here to fill an episode. Must of it was fight scenes which weren't as interesting or fun as fight scenes from earlier in the season. Strange just being all the way evil was pretty boring to me too (I did like the eventual development where his grief side took on a demon form.) Maybe the weakest of the season.

Strange‘s story here mirrored Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness.
It has that layer at least.

I hadn't heard that. Ehh... okay, one more then. But no other sequels.

I wouldn't mind Capt. Carter continuing to be a recurring character for the series, but I will admit 3 episodes with her this season was a bit much, I'd keep it to just one or two a season.

Oh, OK then.
