Shuttlepod Show on YouTube

This past Sunday the Shuttle pod show did their interview with Robert Duncan McNeil talking about his acting career and how he got into directing. I enjoyed listening to about directing Star Trek and Chuck. Connor talked about shadowing Robert Duncan McNeil on the Chuck series finale and that Robbie guest starred in the finale and had to pretend to climb out of a pretend helicopter. And that's when Connor decided not to got into a directing career it looked too complicated filming and directing all the people for all the finale scenes..He likes acting much better.

Could barely believe Robbie’s schedule when he was filming Masters of the Universe and the soap! Flying coast to coast and filming night and day, for weeks? Unreal!

I’ve watched a few of these recently and while I love the guests, I find Dominic to be increasingly annoying and at times, actively offensive.

He wouldn’t let Frakes get a word in about Thunderbirds and then compared him to Jimmy Saville.

.

I was honestly shocked! He made the comment then was kinda gleefully "you don't know what I just said but UK fans will!"

he made a similar comment further on in the interview too.

He says something later on about seeing a girl before legal age and considering how she’d be fuckable in a few years.

Not exactly that, but something like it.

If you let him witter on enough then he continually raises red flags.

The man is gross. I actually hate him.

Agreed, Keating shouldn't be on the show, it's so much more enjoyable when he isn't there, he actively makes it worse and adds nothing of value.

I remember when Gates McFadden was on the show, he told her she's hot and probably expected a thank you, she very pointedly said nothing and while I might be projecting I got the feeling she didn't like that comment at all. It's hardly the worst thing he said but it's so weird to have an actress, dancer, choreographer, director, teacher etc. on the show to talk about her life and career and one of the first things he tells is "Ya hot!".

I love Dom, and I think it's because he has no filter. He says some dumb shit and probably regrets it later but that's who he is. For all his faux pas I've found his interest in the guests the most interesting parts of the show and why I became a patreon.

Dom is great :) This is Youtube, not some Paramount Plus aftershow.

He shouldn't have to have a filter. None of them should. That's what makes the conversations on Shuttlepod show so interesting.

I really want them to get Jolene on there, because shes another one that really doesn't have a filter and probably has a lot to share.

Having no filter does not mean comparing your guest to a convicted, high profile, serial offending paedophile is OK.

It doesn't mean talking over your guests at any given opportunity. Because filter or nay, he's playing the role of host and that means it's his job to ask questions and listen FFS.

It doesn't mean describing your own memories of eyeing up children sexually.

It doesn't mean you get to say racist shit like 'black don't crack' to Michael Dorn.

He's an awful host. People cut him slack because he was in Star Trek, but he's actually an awful host and when he was actually in Star Trek, he was mostly fucking awful too. There's a reason he's barely worked since ENT while the other cast members went on to better things.

Fuck him.

This past Sunday They interviewed Jim Conway and talked about Making Broken Bow and Damage and In a Mirror Darkly. They talked about one of the Beagles filming Broken bow wouldn't do as commanded and was naughty it piddled when they were filming a scene and they had to clean up after it and use a different dog to finish the scene. I enjoyed hearing back stories of filming the different Enterprise shows. This Thursday George Takei will be interviewed for their show. .Connor and Dominic told some interesting stories filming the pilot show and In a mirror darkly. Dominic wasn't rude like he is in some of the shows.

And he’s there, winking and nudging and saying ‘the British viewers will get it’.

We got it. It was fucking gross.

Saville was the worst kind of sexual predator and he operated for decades. It’s not who you compare your guests to. It’s not who you make jokes about.

All kinds of red flags were raised for me every time I watched these videos and that’s why I quit. There are times when the guests, and sometimes even Trineer himself, seem to be made uncomfortable by Keating.

There’s times he drops out some clanger and there’s a sort of awkward laugh from everyone and then… anyway, back to the subject.

The show was way better when Keating was in hospital. The guests could actually speak. Jonathan Frakes could barely get through talking about Thunderbirds because of Keating’s constant interjection.

It’s not about having ‘no filter’. It’s about treating your guests with respect and not being a leering, obnoxious host, making vile jokes about said guests that they don’t even understand, while winking to the audience in a serious act of misjudgement (because making Paedo jokes isn't funny and making them at your guests is just fucking rude).

He is the worst.

If he posted on here, he’d be dragging out the ‘woke’ bullshit. I got that sense from him when Michael Dorn talked about the political side of PIC S03 and Keating made some massive thing about ‘is it the wrong kind of politics…?’.

Gross. Just gross.

It’s interesting to read about these perspectives on Keating. I stopped watching the show a few months ago after he was plugging that awful conspiracy “documentary” series on Netflix called “Ancient Apocalypse”. I realize Trek actors are just regular people too and that some have problematic views, but I’d rather not have an actor from a popular science-fiction franchise propagate anti-science fake news crap and leaving it uncontradicted.

And yes, he’ll often display some weird behavior towards the guests, to the point where it sometimes seems like he’s utterly disinterested in them or their background. So this tracks with what others seem to have noticed about him. Trinneer honestly often comes across similarly unprepared, but he’s more of a gentleman and displays more respect toward their guests.

Black don't crack is racist? Lmao. How sensitive are we nowadays? I would take it in a complimentary light, as Dorn probably did.

Honestly, as long as the guests are in on the joke and fine with it, it's all perfectly acceptable and entertaining.

It's what separates Youtube content from the filtered, scripted interviews we see on P+.

Like I give a fuck about what you think.

Yes, it’s a problematic phrase. Use Google.

And no, Dorn didn’t look comfortable with it and there was a clear sense that neither did Trineer.

Emphasis mine.

Richard, you favor treating guests with respect. How about treating your fellow member with a little more respect than the boldfaced comment above.

I’m surprised and disappointed Dominic turns out to be problematic. ENT is among my all-time favorite shows. I found Lieutenant Reed (Captain Reed in the novels) stood out and was likeable despite being one of the Anglos in the crew.
