Michigan fires linebackers coach Chris Partridge for his lack of cooperation with the NCAA investigation, whatever that means.

Deion played for Bobby Bowden in Bobby’s prime. And bought a recruit pre NIL for his first job (same as Penny Hardway did at Memphis). Him trying to play naive about what goes on in recruiting is like Penny or anyone that knows not only AU ball or just the way things work in all sports in Memphis, Tn trying to claim they are positively shocked that recruits are bought, sold and often pushed by 3rd party handlers looking for their own payouts to sign with specific schools. He knows full well how it works.

He’s swimming with sharks with more backing than him now. Schools with more money, better facilities, larger fanbases, and coaches with sales pitches and/or track records as good or better than his. AND while I’m sure the fact that Colorado was willing to let him have a free hand in doing what he pleased with the team including running kids off was a big draw for him at first he’s now realizing why Colorado has struggled so mightily for so many years. Like Nebraska they are far from recruits. Recruiting there is 20 times harder than it is elsewhere. And Deion is no longer the superstar fish in a small pond.

eta - If Deion is getting beaten out by Drinkwitz at Mizzou then he is in even bigger trouble than I thought. Miz is good for 5*s of East St Louis and that general area. They also creep down into Memphis for pickups that escape UT and the Mississippi schools but they recruit at the level of Vandy. Pinkel was able to leverage upper class heavy years into some good seasons for Mizzou when they first joined but by and large Mizzou picks up the occasional 5 star that’s nearby and rarely has a class at the top of the rankings. They do well with what they have and have tended to produce very good DLs.

After getting blown out by Washington State, Colorado is no longer bowl eligible..... unless they finish 5-7 and there aren't enough 6-6 teams to go to bowl games.

Ouch. That last part hurts because you can petition a 5 and 7 bowl game in that scenario if your APR is good. Most fans think that means grades but APR is more about grades + retention. With as many as Deion ran off there is no way they would qualify. Though kids who leave in good academic standing help your APR.

File that bit under: things I learned while my uni spent 15 years on a coaching carousel. And while some people complain about too many bowls the extra practice time that bowl teams get is so incredibly important. It is so important that I’ve often thought that non bowl eligible teams should be allowed to have practices of some sort because it puts you so far behind others.

Well, my Trojans completely shit the bed the second half of the season.

At this point whatever third-tier bowl were offered we should probably decline in order to spare the nation.

We wasted two incredible years of Caleb Williams. He’s USC’s version of Shohei Ohtani.

Jordan Travis’ injury was pretty awful, if you saw it. Theismann-esque.

I wonder how the playoff committee will evaluate Florida State now. Washington is sitting there at #5 behind them, also undefeated.

@1001001 one of the funniest voltwitter comments on the season came at your Trojans’ expense: Lincoln Riley is 8-4 with a Heisman QB. Josh Heupel is 8-4 with Joe Milton at QB. **

seriously I appreciate Joe for all he did but he has held us back all year. Our problem is we had him and 1 other scholarship QB. I think Heupel thought he could mask Joe’s deficiencies well enough but when injuries started piling up and esp after we lost Bru there was no way to mask things against anyone with a half decent DL.

**assuming we win our last game.

Ouch. We still have Vandy left but should win that one. What on Earth happened? Even with a bad defense USC has too much talent for that.

Not just a bad defense. An historically bad defense.

This season USC gave up the most points it ever has in its entire football history.

If you look at Caleb Williams’ stats, they’re almost identical to last season.

We did that Pruitt’s last season. We we something like 128 on total D. It was miserable.

We also did that when Dooley was HC and we had Tyler Bray and 3 NFL WRs including Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson but Dooley got the idea to hire Sunseri and switch to a 3-4 D using 4-3 personnel and a former LB coach under Saban. That was one of the best offenses we ever had and before offenses went completely insane.

For us depth has been an issue but our defense this season was better than last season. It was offense that went backwards while defense is still subpar but improving. But we had a lot of little things too. I think offense will work itself out but overall we have to recruit better to compete with BAMA and UGA. Right now we aren’t in the same universe in terms of raw talent and depth.

And I’m leaving typos bc I’m on a touchscreen and it is getting annoying. So sorry ahead of time. Need my laptop fixed.

Utah quarterback Cam Rising will return to school next year, making him a seventh-year senior. What's the record for something like that?
