College Football 2023 - RIP Pac-12

Jim Harbaugh is coming back and the team is still undefeated. Looks like they almost a lock to get into the national championship game.

Reports were saying Texas A&M was hiring Kentucky coach Mark Stoops, Aggie fans revolted, Stoops says he was contacted about an opportunity (no schools named) but is staying in Kentucky. Did the scoopers jump the gun? Did Texas A&M and/or Stoops change their mind amid the backlash?

TAMU backed off. They offered but the full BoT got scared by fan reaction. What I don't get is whereas I can see being critical of Stoops, if he's not good enough, you go out and get Elko? One guy beat Louisville while the other lost badly. And as far as football goes, it's just as hard to win at UK as it is Duke.

Reminds me of the shameful UT reaction to when the fanbase revolted over the Greg Schiano hiring only to end up with... Jeremy Pruitt. :brickwall:

Glad we have Heupel now but boy, what a needless self-own that was to give into the crazies.

It seems like if you had one bad experience with Bobby Petrino, you wouldn't bring him back for a second time.

The Schiano reaction was a revolt against Haslam control. I don't have a problem with it. Jimmy Haslam had forced hire after hire and when the WaPo article hit with news on Schiano for PSU's star witness a few weeks before Schiano's name was announced people were legitimately upset. We were used to shitty hires but people weren't going to tolerate a shitty hire who was ALSO accused of knowing about what was going on at Penn State and doing nothing about it. And before it starts... Ohio St. hadn't vetted the accusation because that accusation had been sealed until a few weeks prior to that coaching search.

The news media tried to paint fans as being out of hand on that but we weren't. If anyone is to blame it's the coaching firm that didn't know about the court testimony pointing at Schiano knowing something. And Jimmy Haslam for trying to shove yet another shitty hire down everyone's throat.

As awful as Pruitt was (and he is our worst), I don't see how you can hire Schiano with that accusation unsealed and hitting the news cycle full blast for the first time. If we discredit it, we discredit the main witness to what happened at Penn State. It's not enough to convict anyone of anything but it is def. enough to keep me from wanting the guy as coach. And FTR, Schiano isn't in the same league as Stoops. I have some problems with Stoops (he is IOWA/NFL BORING BALL through and through) but he's a good coach. Schiano is below average and accused of knowing child rape was happening. He and Art Briles should never be near a college campus.

Assuming Michigan holds serve and FSU takes down Louisville (with some style points preferably)... let's go no SEC in the playoff! Because Texas should get in first. If Louisville wins of course, that makes it easy because it's Michigan, Washington, Texas, Alabama.

Nobody at the time or in all the years since has backed up the third-hand accusation against Schiano though. Not Tom Bradley (who supposedly told the story to McQueary), nobody at Penn State, and (though like you said they couldn't have looked into it) nobody at Ohio State. One mistake doesn't discredit his entire testimony, though. I get the point about not wanting him on campus regardless, but giving into our rabid fanbase without doing due dilligence was just absurd.

And frankly I can't agree about him being really worse than Stoops. Above average at Kentucky is obviously incredibly challenging, but raising Rutgers of all places to consistent bowl contention?

Yeah let’s assume Michigan wins and Florida State wins (more questionable) is the committee going to leapfrog #8 Alabama over #7 Texas, who beat Alabama on the road?

If they do that, it would be a travesty.

Fuck Alabama.

I think FSU’s defense is that good.

13-0

Will the playoff committee demote them? Making them the only undefeated Power 5 Conference champion ever not to go?

FSU being down to their third-string QB will hopefully weigh enough in their favor to make up for that offensive uh.... display.

And of course their defense was spectacular.

If they're going to have a one-loss team, why not Georgia? Their only loss was a 3 point loss to Alabama. Could they go from 1 to 4? Why is their one loss worse than Texas' or Alabama's?
