Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

ITS A BRAND NEW DAY…

Toymaker makes more sense. I was thinking it was the Doctor’s son, finally being introduced.

THAT would’ve been a heck of a throwback for the 60th anniversary! :alienblush: I assume you’re referring to the story idea originally proposed by William Hartnell?

Not from that as such. There was a Big Finish story that hinted of a son. I don’t remember what it was called though.

So, with the reveal that NPH is playing the Toymaker in the specials, perhaps The Celestial Toymaker would've been a much better and more apt candidate for a missing episodes animation than, say, The Underwater Menace

The one with the villain in yellowface and the only use of the N-word in the series history? In 2023?

RTD lies if it gets good pr.
And “the beloved Doctor and companion are reunited for the 60th anniversary, oh wait it’s actually a fake-out and he’s not really the Doctor” would not be good PR.

Calling him the 14th Doctor vs. the Bridge Doctor or whatever is semantics/branding, but Tennant is playing the genuine article.

Must every family member be explained? It demystifies the character and the show is generally more creative than that. Or should be for sci-fi. For his son to do something as if the writers looked at "Star Trek Insurrection" for inspiration just sounds corny, as if that movie succeeded with that trope anyway (it didn't). Also, about eight hundred episodes or so of Jerry Springer, or most 90s talk shows for that matter, faff about with the same topic of "kids versus their parents" as well.

It's also "small universe syndrome" that the Doctor's involvement led to every other enemy he's had to deal with. Honestly, if that's the plot, and I hope it isn't, it's not being radically different, to say the least.

You probably saw the other answers by now talking about how Hartnell came up with the idea xD (which I was referencing)
I somehow think revealing the Doctor had a child would not be shocking — Susan exists, and no one talks about Looms anymore.

I imagine that there's been some Toymaker related shenanigans that brought back this face but he's still the Doctor.

No doubt now that I have committed this thought to print I will be proven wrong, but I get the impression that nobody writing for DW outside of Big Finish has any interest in revisiting Susan or how the Doctor came to be a grandparent.

(Next week: RTD announces season-long plot based around Susan and her parents)

Perhaps the Doctor had a son? I would say daughter, but they have already kinda done that episode.

The 11th Doctor did mention Susan. Only a matter of time until they get to her in the show. When they have exhausted everything else. :)

Carole Ann Ford is still alive, so they could do an ‘old’ and ‘young’ Susan episode, a bit like the DS9 episode The Visitor. Carol Ann Ford may not be acting anymore though…

We need Susan and to catch up with 'daughter' Jenny too.

As long as it's not all piled fan service upon fan service, in time Who and the planned (?) spinoffs should give us visits with Romana, Leela and The Rani.

I heard a rumor years back that Gillian Anderson was going to play the Rani at some point. I don't know what happened to that.

Just saw the trailer. Straight up chills. And that kind of thing doesn’t happen often. Can’t wait!!
I have not had chills like that for many years in regards to Doctor Who. I’m kind of disappointed that Ncutie is not in this episode more, but I think that he may be in ‘visions’ that the 14th Doctor is having? I could be wrong….
