Spoilers AHSOKA series [Spoiler Discussion]

Something I don't get: at the end of the episode, why does it seem like Thrawn is ordering Morgan to fire on the purrgil? Aren't his own people manning the guns?

Because she has the Eye of Sion in orbit. Where she can shoot any incoming purgil. Meanwhile, the Chimaera needs to spend three days on the surface loading cargo (of the seemingly undead army variety).

His guns not going to be terribly useful for a bit.

I don't know, Pellaeon doesn't seem the sort to put a huge amount of stock in prophecies, scrying, and witchdreams. I think if he's out there evangelising for Thrawn, it's because he knows he's back.
I expect that it's a bit more concrete than just "scrying" et al, but I'm not convinced he's actually back (yet). Although his inability to produce Thrawn for the council suggests that he may not be present and accounted for.

I expect that the minute Thrawn returns to the Empire, he would quietly recover his top Imperial associates and their resources (including Pelleon) so when he's ready to reveal himself to the council, no one's gonna dare to tell him he can't take over.
The rumors would prepare them psychologically that he's not in fact dead.

No, I didn't make it up. The show doesn't tell us Thrawn did anything at all except wait. You're making it up if you assuming some amazing cool backstory that Thrawn has been up to since there's no mention or evidence of that at all. That's not how evidence works, you know.

And you're making up that Thrawn has done 'nothing' when we have no evidence of that .When Morgan asks Thrawn to send more than two squadrons after Sabine and Ezra, he refuses, saying that the number of his Stormtroopers has been depleted since arriving in the new galaxy. The Stormtroopers also appear to have significant battle damage to their armour. Also Thrawn's star destroyer is not in orbit of Peridea when The Scion arrives. There is plenty of evidence to say he's been somewhere other than peridea but that wherever he ventured to has not been kind. It would also make sense that peridea is beign used as Thrawn's base given it is the home of nightsister allies and it's on the doorstep of his only route home.

Oh and the Old Tongue script above the door doesn't appear to say anything in particular. Just a string of random letters repeated on both sides. ("AROKTSOLNGIERSIHYAMLLAKORELURTEJUKESIAR" in case anyone is interested.)
You utter idiot. You saw the font was upside-down, and you forgot to reverse the order!
It's: "RAISE KUJET RULER OK ALL MAY HIS REIGN LOST KORA"

And now since only some of those words make sense, I'll have to go back and double check for mistakes!

Also side note: "May HIS reign last.."? That doesn't sound matriarchal. Guess my suspicions that this is a Sith structure are on target after all.

ETA: "(P?)RAISE KUJET RULER OF ALL MAY HIS REIGN LAST FOR AL-T-"
So not Sith then, but a Zeffo? Also: how many tombs does this guy have? (Yes I know it's probably just an easter egg, nothing more, and it could still be a Sith temple/tomb/prison/all of the above)

A video and article on Ahsoka's T-6 shuttle physical model. Yes, they used the physical model for some of the filming, just like for the Razor Crest and Gideon's light cruiser.

The red markings are an homage to the Klingon Bird of Prey.

Concept art for the ruins in Episode 1 did use pieces of Zeffo art from Fallen Order. It's possible some of it still made it in, either as an easter egg or a mistake.

Wow that is a little bit dark. The chainmail Ezra is wearing is storm trooper dog tags.

Dude is responsible for Thrawn needing resurrected dead guys. No wonder every single one had damaged armor.

I wonder what he was using to fight with, or if he found a crystal alternative on the planet to craft a new saber.

Something about the chronology still bugs me, so I went back and re-watched the Shadow Council scene in 'The Spies' to refresh my memory, and while it's not concrete, it does seem as though there's a reasonable case to be made for Thrawn already being back by that point, and by extension, all of this show happening before Mando Season 3; Observe.
Of particular note is this exchange: -
This could be taken either way of course, but it would make sense that once back, Thrawn would want some time to establish himself, keep a low profile, and get the lay of the galaxy before making moves. It's not like him to just come out swinging.
Indeed given what's being set-up, I suspect we'll see Hera removed from command, and the New Republic remain wilfully ignorant of Thrawn's return for now. Though the implication there could be that Ezra never actually makes it back home, since it'd be pretty hard to deny the narrative when the person last seen with Thrawn reappears.

Yes Gideon says he's heard no whispers despite him being Mr Head Spymaster Person, but he also says he's not doing any cloning work, so we know he's full of crap and what he says here cannot be taken at face value. It's entirely possible he knows full well Thrawn is back; meaning that's partly what's driving his need for his force adept super-clones, and why he's posturing so much to gain as much sway of the council as possible before Thrawn shows his hand.
Yeah, that does almost sound Gideon t he knows Thrawn is back and is surprised that he didn't show up.

Well.. Look at Maul after Ahsoka freed him during order 66. No sabre needed to cause mass quantities..

Well most of the damage to their armor seems to be from blunt force trauma, so it's possible Ezra has been going full on Shaolin Jedi. That said, the repair across Enoch's left gauntlet has a distinctly straight look to it, so it's possible Ezra found a kyber cave or some such. Or has mastered the ancient art of imbuing a cutting edge with the power of the force, like from the old 'Dawn of the Jedi' comics.

All that said, I'm not buying this interpretation of him wearing dogtags. For starters, trophy taking is generally not the Jedi way (at least not since the Jedi Crusades.) Secondly, no way are dogtags made out of anything remotely worthwhile as protection. Thirdly, it's just a particular style of scale mail. There's nothing to indicate that they're dogtags. No marking, no Imperial cogs, just blank pieces of metal. I mean see for yourself: -

Also; we've never seen nor heard of dog-tags being a thing in Star Wars. ID cylinders, cards & chips yes. Tags? Not so much. Note however that his belt does appear to have an empty hook on it, so chances of him having built a new saber are pretty good.

I wonder how Thrawn and his men managed to survive against a somewhat powerful Jedi, who was not their captive. Especially someone like Ezra, who had never been Temple trained.

Well, I'm not a professional space fantasy writer, but it seems to me they could have had Thawn conquer several planet's worth of spacefaring societies during the last in-universe decade, and united them under his rule. When Baylan/Morgan/Sabine got to this new galaxy, they could have been intercepted by a band of scrappy outlaws, who would be turn out to be former top commanders of these societies. Their peoples had always been consumed by petty rivalries, but once Thrawn arrived, they belatedly banded together against him - to no avail.
While that would make the backstory of the Peridea banishment more exciting, and more in line with some expectations we built for the grand entrance into a whole different galaxy (another alternative for that would have been finding Thrawn imprisoned by mysterious creatures, for comparison), it would have also introduced yet another totally pointless detour from the main storyline here.

What we've got is the most sensible result when you landed in planet / region of space with only primitive dwellers and no mapped hyperspace lanes. If Thrawn had wasted time conquering green hermit crab turtles, it would have made him look a joke. If he had conquered an alternative advanced civilization, it would have made him unbelievable – he's ruthlessly intelligent, not a god.

The concept of being stranded in a distant Purrgil graveyard around a primitive planet that's out of reach of anything is interesting enough, it only fault being that I (and perhaps you) built different expectations going into it. There's no need to go full galaxy-building for what is basically there to give us Thrawn's return. Painting this as a proper banishment, while depicting a very Star Wars-y yet distant and strange world is probably the best that you might want, and it does most service to Ezra's original plan.

I could care less that Thrawn has been dying of boredom for decades, but not by much.

I imagine “Stop trying to kill him” would do the trick. He may not be Temple-trained, but he’s still a Jedi.

I think the best real world parallel to draw here is Napolean. They've added some higher stakes to the adventure, but this is essentially Napolean being retrieved from exile prior to Waterloo.

It doesn't really matter what Thrawn has been up to in exile. He could have taken up crochet and be running an Etsy shop. What matters to the story is that he is returning, and that is bad for anybody not the Empire.
