Why is the Kzinti named Taylor? Is this a case of alien Starfleet officers adopting common English names because the Earthers can’t pronounce their real names? Kind of like Jennifer the Andorian.

Possibly he's like the Orion from Idaho.

"Why are you named Taylor?"

"Why are you named Bob?"

This was GREAT! The three plots were well balanced and both funny and interesting, loved aaah little things such as the game, the Inner Light gag, the computer and doctor cat’s questionable methods.

S'alright. One of the issues I have with Lower Decks is that the short episode length gives very little time to develop any situations the crew find themselves in. I'd have liked to have seen more of the Culture Orbital. T'Lyn remains a fine addition to the crew though.

Niven Rings are more on the scale of a Dyson Sphere, and vastly larger than Corazonia was shown to be. This was closer to a Bishop Ring; judging from the shot we see of buildings and landscape on the ring's inner surface it's way smaller than even the tiniest Banks Orbital.

EDIT: I did a back-of-an-envelope calculation – based on its rotation speed and apparently Earth-like gravity, and the height of buildings visible from space vs on the surface, the diameter of the ring works out to about 200km. This would make the surface area about 3000km². It's more of a large city-state or colony than an artificial world.

Episode 3!

Megastructure ring heh - great to see something like this in Trek.

Environmental computer? Oh no....

Vexilon seems cool.

Ransom likes art? Nice.

'archaic technology' is a course at the academy? I'd so take that.

Those power units look similar to the NX-01 Enterprise engines

Anomaly storage room!

Phillips has a pet ferret called Lancelot? Neat.

Overreacting? I suspect Tendi is right!

Ah... good old OS updates.

Big Merp is very cool.

The Kzinti is called Taylor? - I bet that is the translation.

Over working there Brad!

Vulcan logic is of course correct!

Rutherford playing The Game is awesome.

Kaboom!

Brad NOOOOOO!!!

Koala!

I can almost see 2380 Federation medicine being good enough to revive the dead...

Officer hazing - totally can see that happening!

Enjoyable episode. Nice take on the 'computer goes bad'.

Hello TrekBBS friends, I am back once again with my weekly question about every episode of Lower Decks:

My daughter, who is now ten, really loves LD and loves to watch it with us on Friday nights. The only episode she has missed is "Where Pleasant Fountains Lie" due to the high level of sexual content, but I do like to check in with the BBS before each episode to make sure there's nothing too bad for a 10YO in each week's ep. For reference, we watched 4.1 and 4.2 last week and they were both perfectly fine, even Moopsy's bone-sucking.

Can anyone tell me if there is anything too objectionable (meaning too violent or sexual) in this week's ep? No need to spoil, just let me know if it would make me a bad parent to watch this ep with her!

Thanks so much.

This would make the surface area about 3000km²
About the size of Yosemite national park or 3/4 of Rhode Island. So big but realtivly small. More like a commune than a Culture.

If she was fine with Moopsie, then this one is quite okay, no violence, bit of burned Boims at the end, nothing special.

Koola! 2nd time for Boims!

So, I give this one an 8. Very enjoyable, much like the second episode and a tiny step down from the season opener. But as a bonus, we got more T'Lyn! I hope they upgrade her to a regular eventually. She got all the best lines: "and/or dismemberment" ... "and your flaws".

I liked the episode, but it was let down by the twist ending. I actually wish Dirk was traumatized by the game because that would have been funnier I think. The end just made it a little more predictable.
I was actually disappointed by this episode the first time as well, but upon a rewatch I liked it way more. The second watch, I was grinning for the whole second half. The first time through I was a little annoyed by little things like that a single isolinear chip malfunctioning could be disastrous for the whole ship. Now I know it was likely just part of the hazing, and Rutherford probably just overlooked it by being too focused on the problem(s) at hand. On first watch, it just didn't seem as exciting as some other episodes, but the second time through I could really enjoy all three storylines and the character interplay without worrying about the plot as much.

This was GREAT! The three plots were well balanced and both funny and interesting, loved aaah little things such as the game, the Inner Light gag, the computer and doctor cat’s questionable methods.

I didn't realize that that probe was from The Inner Light and that it forced the Gift Box to live a mini-life. It makes sense why it said "I miss my wife". I guess they were going to torture the Lt with two different mind prisons. Man - hardcore Mariner and Tendi.
