"I don't need Sabine to be a Jedi. I need her to be herself."
I freely admit that when I saw the runtime for this episode, I was disappointed...but this episode did not disappoint.
Even though we knew they would be appearing, between the trailers and last episode's foreshadowing, it was still
magnificent to see the Purrgil abruptly appear in the upper atmosphere of Seatos to help Ahsoka, Sabine, and Huyang escape from Shin and company. I've always loved a space whale (excuse me, Huyang, star whale) so it's absolutely breathtaking to see the Purrgil fully realized in live action. I loved them in
Rebels and I love them here. I can't wait to see more Purrgil.
The other big highlight of the episode was the wonderful training sequence Sabine goes through. Not only was it such a joy to see Sabine train again (with all of the frustrations that come with it), but seeing Ahsoka training someone in the ways of the Jedi brought such a big smile to my face. She has truly come so far. She may not have wanted to train Grogu (and her previous experience with Sabine was probably part of that reason) but she looked so at ease in leading Sabine down that path. I hope we continue see more scenes like this throughout the season and not simply regulating them to training montages. Ahsoka has stressed the importance of that training taking time and patience and I really hope the show follows through with that advice.
Glad to finally see Jacen as well as
Chancellor Mon Mothma, even if it meant Hera's inevitably futile argument for help at Seatos. We already knew the New Republic would be weak and turn a blind, but it was still painful to watch it up close. Didn't help dealing with an arrogant senator who only cared to use Hera's sorrow against her.
It goes without saying that Huyang continues to steal every damn scene he's in and it's clear David Tennant is have the time of his life. The world needs more Huyang.
Lastly, I loved the callbacks to Episode IV, from the blind training mask (if utilized differently here) to Sabine's "Don't get cocky, kid!" moment to a good old-fashioned space dogfight.
