What's your unpopular opinions on SNW?

My unpopular opinions:

We didn't need any TOS characters other than Pike and Spock. (And Una, theoretically). Keep the actors, make new characters with them.

We didn't need to see T'Pring, or her parents, ever.

We didn't need a crossover episode or a musical. I tolerated the musical better than I thought I would, though.

We need to see more of Pike on the bridge, and less of him in an apron.

They've wrecked canon / continuity with TOS insofar as the Gorn are concerned. Watching people hamster-wheel and do mental backflips trying to reconcile it all are, however, amusing.

The Spock and Chapel romantic subplot is terrible.
Generally speaking yes. I'd say the same for Pike and Baetel.
Having Kirk around is fine but he’s being used a smidge too much.
Yeah, definitely too much.

Wrecked it, eh? I must have missed that.

And reconciling inconsistencies is what fans have done since I started reading Trek novels and such. But here it's too much? :wtf:

I’m willing to wait and see what their end game is for the Gorn before I say they ruined them.
Even if I don't agree with their execution I still can safely say that "ruined" is not what happened with the Gorn.

Annoying? Yes.

Not my choice? Definitely so.

Steering in to tropishness? Yup, but that's Star Trek.

Ruined? Stretching it.

I miss seeing some of the ship classes from Discovery. I love The Enterprise, her shuttles, the Farragut, Archer, D7/K't'inga, etc. But I kinda miss seeing some of the designs from. Season 1 and 2 of Discovery. Even some of the Klingon ships would be a welcomed sight.

SNW is doing a fantastic job at both sticking to canon but also finding creative ways to surprise us with things we thought we knew but didn't. Excellent way to do a prequel.

While many seem to think SNW must be a different timeline, I not only think it is in the Prime timeline but that it contributes and expands upon things later in the timeline, especially TOS. TOS will feel richer thanks to SNW.

Finally, I love the new Gorn.

^ I always thought of the show as simply a visual re-imagining. But with the changes to the timeline thanks to the Romulans, you could say that the 23rd century got updated as a result. Now you have an in-story reason for why the show doesn't look like TOS.

Maybe that can be my unpopular opinion. :o

Unpopular opinion: we should have had a cooking episode titled The Captain's Table, with Chef Christopher Pike taking us on a one-hour tour showcasing the culinary delights of the Alpha (and Beta) quadrants.

After each dish was prepared, one of the main crew would join Chris at the table to taste. This would allow the audience some time to soak in some inspired exchange on food, life, love, the Universe etc.

Better make it a two-parter.
