What's your unpopular opinions on SNW?

But I don't understand why they cannot work within previous continuity. Having T'Pring show up for example. That did not have to happen. She's not even an interesting character. It goes against her appearance in TOS no matter how people try to justify it. Enterprise did a better job. I remember the outrage over the ferengi showing up.....lol.....now it's ok for Spock to be in a love triangle with Chapel and Tpring????.....I don't get it....lol
.

The love triangle is one of the worst part of the show though. A lot of fans do admit that.

Unpopular Opinion: That being completely standalone other than character arcs isn't doing the show any favours in terms of anticipation (yup, know I'm gonna get crushed for that one!).

Its just my personal taste these days, but completely episodic to me isn't invigorating. Part of the fun of serialized stories for me is the journey, to the point that I'd almost rather have a disappointing conclusion than not risk it at all.

Another unpopular opinion - the bar set really pisses me off. No idea why. It just doesn't fit.

It's way more like Discovery than the "SNW lover, Disco hater" section of the fans would like to admit.

It is very much like Discovery, however SNW been episodic hide ssome of the flaws a lot better. Discovery can drag a story with not the best results. SNW has this same issues too such as the dragging of the love triangle with Chapel and Tpring.

Also episodes that end with La'an crying, Chapel saving the day by pouring out her feelings to an alien or M'Benga being some sort of brutal assassin would have been absolutely ripped to shreds about being too soppy, too dark or too "pew pew"

Jeysus if Discovery had done a musical episode the planet would have exploded with the outpouring of rage.

Best post I have read today:lol:.

SNW season 2 is more like Discovery than TOS in an episodic format. It may even be shoddier since in Discovery the romances is not too soapy. Book and Michael have a good healthy romance from the last I saw. She and Ash were good too before the Klingon thing.

I do not mind Laan and Kirk as a couple in SNW. I didalmost feel bad for Laan when Kirk tells her carol was pregnant though, despite the soapy writing too of my love interest is expecting a baby with another woman. I cannot believe this is actually happening in star trek. Really soapy. Disocvery will never....

Yes, Disco and SNW ... peas in a pod they are. Season-spanning galaxy-ending threat only Captain Pike is uniquely qualified to solve wrapped in excruciating mystery box with a side of intense whisper crying! SNW S2 - right?

Unlike Discovery, I walk away from watching an episode of SNW feeling good.

As for romantic comparisons: Book and Michael's romance had about as much heat as a Breen's ballsack. Spock and Chapel? Now that is heat. Palpable HEAT.

- This is Pike’s show, not Kirk’s; it’s not fair to Pike for Kirk to constantly turn up and push Pike out; and if they want so much Kirk he should get his own damn show already

Remember Pike being on Discovery spawned SNW. I'm hoping that's the idea with Kirk.

I would really like to see him play 2nd fiddle to a Captain, and somehow show him growing into what he becomes later.

The internet would be exploded.

SNW is just reminding me of all the wonderful double standards I see in Trek fandom.

Right...

the only heat I felt was from my laptop sitting on my lap.

there was heat with spock/chapel when they were building it up, predictable yes? but the heat and tension was there. Now when they became an official item, the heat turned cold fast. the chemistry and spark was gone.Spock smile in the old scieientists to please Chapel was ....:vulcan:. I do not think discovery would have gotten a pass for that.

Book and Michael are more like your average common couple that seem to like and enjoy eachother like many couples you know in real life.

Subspace Rhapsody is my new all-time favorite Trek episode. ( For context, I watched the launch of Star Trek on Sept. 8, 1966 as a 20 year-old engineering student and have seen every nanosecond of Trek since.) If not absolute favorite, certainly top 5; I'm just not sure which ep to boot out to make room.

No.

In line with Spock in the Cage. So, nonissue?

Depends on the couple. Some enjoy each other, some are just quietly committed. Others are intense and looking for the next big thing. There is no one way to be a couple. This is assuming that couples can do things "right" and "wrong" based upon outsiders judgements.

A lot of fans may not like the triangle, but it is incredibly popular in the other parts of the fandom. You can't follow a single Star Trek tag on tumblr without being inundated with it. Although triangle might not be the best description since it's
Chapel - Spock
T'Pring - Spock
Kirk - Spock
Shippers all fighting with one another

They should do an episode called "Kobyashi Maru" where Spock's in charge and a ship rescue operation at the border goes completely to shit despite everyone's best efforts.

Eventually, he incorporates the experience into a test he designs for SFA.

Did Spock design that test in the Prime Universe, as he did in the Kelvin version, you ask? Well, why not?
