Even the (Captain, 1st Officer, 2nd Officer, 3rd Officer) should have different specialities that they came from originally before they were in the command track so that they can be "Backup" for a Chief of ___ department should some of them suffer a casualty or becomes incapacitated.

The Final Reflection

Not exactly. The Final Reflection theorized that the Klingons we saw on TOS were Klingon/Human Fusions, engineered specifically to deal with humans. It also theorized about other fusions, like Klingon/Vulcan. So, it was a bit more complex than just "They're from another planet in the Klingon Empire."

Yes, but considering how at home Decker looked in Engineering with Scotty, it's not a stretch to imagine he had a background in the sciences or engineering.

Or he was like Kirk and was moved around periodically in the course of his career. In one episode Kirk walks over to the science station and comfortable operates it. He was assigned to engineering as a junior officer.

I've always wondered what was supposed to happen when Decker went for a meal, or the toilet, or got some sleep. Was the station going to just sit there unoccupied? They didn't know that Spock was going to join them.

Even with the death of Sonak should not there have been several people aboard the Enterprise fully train and experienced in operating the new aspects of the station? People go off shift, people in Starfleet die. Prior to VGER the ship was at some point was going to be deployed.

He said 'fully rated.' Which implies that others are at least partially rated, enough to stand watches, etc. But yeah, the idea that Decker is the only one who can be science officer is somewhat nonsensical. A very 'Trek' moment, like 'you're the only ship in the sector.'

Or maybe the person at the station doesn't need to be fully down with every aspect of the ship's design... as long as you have someone on board who had the necessary knowledge, and can take over if necessary.

I have my own version of the Fall and Occupation of Betazed during the Domion War that I created for a fanfic that never ended up happening (I can't write Trek, at least not 90s-style Trek) It worked under the premise that Betazoids were distrusted after the Dominion War because the occupation of their planet was "cosy" when compared to other places like Benzar and the Betazoids never even tried to rebel. It was to be narrated by a Betazoid character who had been present for the Fall.

In that idea the Dominion Fleet that was sent to conquer Betazed carried a new clone of Kilana (specifically chosen because the Dominion calculated that the Betazoids would respond well to her) They didn't really attack the planet, instead Kilana, accompanied by a battalion of Jem'Hadar beamed down to the capital city where she was confronted by a Betazed delegation led by Lwaxana. Kilana acted ever so charming, assuring them that the Domion was not there to hurt the Betazoids and if the planet complied whit the Dominion's demands they'd be "the best of friends". Then she opened her mind to the delegation and broadcasted mental images of what happens to planets who resist the Domion "she showed us visions of planets turned into graveyards. Worse yet; abodes of the living dead(a reference to the planet in The Quickening)".
Confronted with that, and sensing the violent thoughts of the Jem'Hadar too Lwaxana formally handed over the planet to the Dominion "And for the first time in my life I saw Lady Troi defeated".
The rest of the occupation didn't see any large occurances of violence or destruction (there probably was still a bit of it, but more like scattered incidents), but for the duration of it the Betazoids, through their telepathy were kept in a constant state of mental terror by being shown and communicated over and over again what would happen if just one of them stepped out of line. This compliance by the Betazoid further hindered Starfleet's attempts to retake the planet because the Dominon would hide things like weapon factories and shield generators in densely populated areas and put Betazoid citizens to work in their installations. This kept the planet a thorn in the side of the Federation for the duration of the war.
And this led to Betazoids being seen as somewhat like traitors among many in Starfleet (in that timeline where my fanfic would have taken place at least)

It was actually Deep Space Nine that got pulled into the Delta Quadrant, not Voyager.

Voyager is a floating KFC. And every crewmember looks like Colonel Sanders, with a bun/tattoo/Borg implants/etc.

There's probably an AU fanfic series of that, where the Voyager crew are KFC workers, the Kazon are the local street gangs and the Borg Queen is the ultimate Karen.

Each series is in its own universe, to find and explore its own way. Even TNG buggered up TOS from time to time, and TOS wasn't always perfect with itself either. Doesn't mean that none of the sequels or incarnations isn't enjoyable just because it doesn't fit 100% with what preceded it.

And to answer the big question - the Nexus ribbon is also a multidimensional gateway along with being a psychological mind trap of pure joy you don't is too irresistible to leave but can't get into either*, time portal, psi-directed glowy thingy, and big shiny glorified waffle iron, so why not?

* the movie's dialogue outright states BOTH incompatible ideas, among other impressive inconsistencies. Ugh! No wonder Leonard Nimoy balked. Amazed he didn't say to have an open mind like he would, sometime later. But even with that, GEN has a unique level of headslappery that boggles the mind at times...

Zhaban is alive and is a Section 31 agent, pursuing Commodore Oh, Narek, and the rest of Zhat Vash all throughout S2 &S3 of Picard.

TOS, TAS, TOS Movies, and S1 &S2 of TNG were the original timeline. Then the timeline was shifted 70 years into the future between S2 and S3 and no one noticed.

Things aren’t as they appear to be in the 32nd century. The Federation either did something scandalous between the 25th and 32nd centuries. Or the Federation, and possibly all organic life in that century, are all synths. Either way, the crew of Discovery hasn’t figured it out yet.

I use mine to build a 'head-canon' continuity that is my Prime Timeline, for my enjoyment only. Also, if I ever run another ST RPG game of any kind, it will form the basis of my Trek-verse.
