Favourite sport film?

What are your favourite sport films? Tell us. Maybe I will do a poll in a few weeks to see if we can come up with a 'most popular' or something... or maybe I am just saying that and have no intention of making a poll at all.

I've seen lots of stinkers, but some very good sports flicks. One I really enjoyed was Cinderella Man, and was surprised at how good it was.

were you in my head this morning?

I was thinking of posting the exact same topic as I was driving to work.

It's pretty obvious that Slapshot will be high on my list, as well as Mystery, Alaska and Miracle.

Is it just me or is the "slow clap" an overused bit in sports films?

Very tough call. It'd have to come from:

Hoosiers
Rocky
Field of Dreams
Bull Durham
The Karate Kid
Miracle
The Longest Yard (original w/Burt Reynolds and Eddie Albert)
Chariots of Fire
Brian's Song (w/ Billy Dee Williams & James Caan)
The Natural

Most likely... I'd have to say my alltime favorite is "Hoosiers", but that could be coloured by this time of year

So many great sports films but my top 6:

Remember the Titans
Major League
Happy Gilmore (Yeah, I laugh everytime I see this movie)
Talladega Nights (See Happy Gilmore)
Caddyshack
Cinderella Man

There are so many great films out there...

The Natural
Field of Dreams
Bad News Bears (the original)
Caddyshack
Cinderella Man

Bad News Bears - there was only one film of that title. There were rumors of some awful remake, but as far as I'm concerned, that never happened.

Well, duh. I was just making sure people knew I meant the first film and not one of the sequels (people can be crazy). ;)

Slap Shot
Bull Durham
North Dallas Forty
Brian's Song
Field of Dreams

Those are my favorites.

:techman:

Does Raging Bull count?

I also have to make an honorable mention of The Sandlot. I've loved that film since I was a kid. Never mustered up the courage to see the sequel.

Major League: Back to the Minors. That's right. I've seen this film (with Scott Bakula) and I liked it. :p

The Sandlot is a fun movie, especially for anyone who played sandlot baseball as a kid. :D

Sure it does, every bit as much as "Caddyshack" and such count. It's been on every list of sports films I've ever seen. There's even discussion as to whether "Raging Bull" is the greatest boxing film ever.

Bull Durham, The Longest Yard (original version) and North Dallas Forty would be my top three.

Football: North Dallas 40
Baseball: Field of Dreams
Boxing: Raging Bull
Basketball: Hoosiers (followed by "Go Man Go" :guffaw:)

But seriously, are there any decent pro basketball movies? I can't think of one.

Which one of the Major League films had this scene? I forgot.

"That wouldn't have been out of a lot of parks."
"Name ONE!"
(pause) "Yellowstone."

:guffaw:
