Favourite sport film?

I just saw Bull Durham for the very first time tonight. Funny movie and great to put in the mood for Baseball season. I think I still like Major League and Major League II though, but BD was awesome.

I'm kinda partial to The Mighty Ducks

Well, I'm glad someone said it, since I didn't actually want to admit it ;)

Mighty Ducks 1 and 2 were awesome. I never saw the other two.

I have been told by a friend from work that he is going to force me to watch the first the three live action Mighty Ducks movies. We were going to watch them this weekend but since he broke it off with his fiance, we had to reschedule it until he moves into his new apartment.

Another sports movie that I forgot to mention that I really like is The Legend of Bagger Vance. I have watched that move several times and love it. I would love to own the soundtrack but it fetches for a pretty penny on ebay. I should have gotten it when it first came out.

Days of Thunder
Major League
Miracle
Rounders (I know, a stretch, but poker is on ESPN...)

And wrestling has been on Sci-Fi, but I'm still not calling wrestling "science fiction." Get that poker movie crap outta here!

I sometimes forget how young you are. Seeing Bull Durham for the first time? Excellent.

:techman:

I think it is 100 times better than Major League.

JMHO

Gee thanks alot. ;)

Seriously, I just never got around to seeing it before and finally saw it this week. As to why I think ML is better, lets just say that Susan Surandon and Kevin Costner together just doesn't turn me on that much. The Sex scenes were a tad bit long for my tastes.

"Everybody's All American" with Dennis Quaid.
Very underrated and overlooked. What I liked about it, besides some stellar performances from Dennis Quaid, Jessica Lange, Timothy Hutton, and John Goodman, was how the movie mostly concerned itself with the main character's off field life rather than on field action. So many football movies make the mistake of trying to show too much action and it ALWAYS comes off as fake because you just can't simulate that kind of violence realistically.

One of the few good pro football movies.

My favorite sport film is (and ever would be) Victory by John Huston, with Michael Caine, Max Von Sydow, Sly Stallone and O Rei himself, Pele'.
The French crowd chanting "victoire! victoire!" at the stadium make my eyes tingle every time. Even if they are French! :p

Slapshot, of course, tops my list.
Maurice Richard (Entitled The Rocket in the anglophone market)
Les Boys (all four of them--plus the TV series. It's a francophone series of films and shows from Quebec--the fourth film included the participation of a number of former NHL stars like Guy Lafleur and Raymond Bourque)
Eight Men Out
Bull Durham
Grand Prix (not actually a great movie, but spectacular racing scenes--particularly in HD DVD with my projector).

Slapshot. Major League -- fluffy movies, and I enjoyed them.

More serious sports movies I liked were The Program, Remember the Titans, Field of Dreams, and Rudy.

My favourite sports flick was Space Jam. Who wold have thought it would be such a fun movie?!

That movie was so unrealistic. They had aliens steal Shawn Bradley's talent. Everyone knows that Shawn Bradley never had any talent to steal.

Eh, I would still consider it a sports movie even if I don't think it's a sport. It has the protagonist go into a competition against the antagonist where everything is on the line at the end of the movie. How could it NOT be a sports movie?

Plus John Malkovich is great with the worst Russian accent ever. "Ahm shtill up frem de last time I schtick it in you!"

Happy Gilmore is awesome as well. "The Price is Wrong. Bitch."

Apologies for bringing this thread back up but I just saw Slap Shot for the very first time tonight. That was a hilarious movie, and so poignant to todays game and the debate on whether fighting in Hockey is a good thing. So many great scenes, but I think my favorite was when they dropped the gloves before the game even started. Man that was funny.

Awesome that you revived this one so I can join in

The Program
The Natural
Major League
Bull Durham
Caddyshack
Slap Shot
Field of Dreams
Rudy
*61

and, if bowling counts, Kingpin.
