I wonder if the premise that they were expressing inner thoughts and feelings that they literally never intended to express out loud is significant.

Like, Pike sang things to Batel that he didn't intend to say. Perhaps Chapel did not intend to say that she was prepared to break up with Spock out loud when she was overcome with joy at being accepted for the fellowship on the basis of her work. Based on last week's episode, the emotional damage that Chapel suffered during the war was her main issue. It's not that she doesn't love Spock, it's that she doesn't know how to handle her own issues.

In contrast, when La'an and Kirk spoke with each other, it was a conversation, not two inner monologues expressed as musical lyrics.

I thought new accounts couldn't edit or multi-quote.

Although maybe I just think the latter because new peeps have learned how do do it.
New accounts can’t edit. They can multi-quote, but that’s a feature you stumble upon after you’ve been here a bit.

This what the songs reminded me of

I thought lyrics were quite clever at points. Particularly Spock's "I'm the (E)X", but others as well. The melodies were typical musical fair but I didn't think they brought the episode down at all.

But each to their own!
The lyrics were fine

Btw, I was so afraid the episode was gonna be about some kind of trickster alien like Q forcing the crew to sing for his/her own amusement because that's the old cliche Star Trek thing (not the musical part, just the trickster alien tormenting the crew). I'm glad they DIDN'T do that and went with the plot device of a weird space anomaly causing people to sing and dance and then USING song and dance to save the galaxy from a living hell of an eternal musical. I mean, as funny as it would be, I imagine a lot of residents in the galaxy would just drop dead from sheer exhaustion alone! Singing and dancing takes a lot of energy! That being said, if that singing "virus" had reached the Delta Quadrant the idea of singing Borg would be so outrageous that I laugh just thinking about it.

I like musicals and I like Star Trek. But as Miles O'Brien's mother might say "If you combine the two, you'll end up doing neither very well". It's wasn't terrible but it was painful to watch in parts.

After Boimler’s appearance last episode I didn’t think it could get worse. Don’t get me wrong, as far-fetched as that episode was, I still enjoyed it.
This episode started well, but when the singing started they lost me.
The actors all sang pretty well (especially the women that play Uhura and L’ann). But I am not into musicals.
Spock’ s song I am the E(x) was quite moving

Feel quite similar except I didn't really warm to Spock's song.

The only song I liked was Chapels which had a sort of Bond quality to it.

Its the single episode of any of the series which makes no sense whatsoever.
Have you really watched? Was explained.

Not if they play the same music as this episode

They did it badly

Opinion
If this wasn't Star Trek .. I wouldn't have such a problem. But throwing this in is totally out character for Star Trek, and its not what I expected or expect . Its basically the director and producer doing what they want to. Its like remaking The Godfather as a musical.
YOUR problem

Its Horrible
Opinion

This really reminded me of some music of Hamilton. Turns out they approached Lin Manuel Miranda but he didn't return their calls.

Source?

Well It was what it was. It was interesting and engaging, but also really weird. The Klingon bit was laugh out loud hilarious. I guess it was good to really get the characters' feelings out there. Very odd how this is now the canon reason that Spock was motivated to become more Vulcan.
