Another episode it reminded me of was TNG WNOHGB, where one crewmember twirls and spins around and then stops and is confused. The whole crew also had to send thoughts and prayers to give the Traveler some travel energy, and that's what got them home

If this wasn't Star Trek .. I wouldn't have such a problem. But throwing this in is totally out character for Star Trek, and its not what I expected or expect . Its basically the director and producer doing what they want to. Its like remaking The Godfather as a musical.

Indeed. How many times in the Star Trek franchise have we had an anomaly have some kind of effect on the crew? This was just one more, and I felt their justification was more than enough for what they planned to do. Hell, they could have been like "there's no known cause," and I'd have been like "cool, let's get on with the singing!"

It's not at all out of character, it just hasn't been done before. That's the difference, and I'm glad they're trying to put "Strange" in Strange New Worlds.
