Discovery characters you predict will appear in Starfleet Academy

We've had a little scattered chatter about this already, but I thought it might warrant its own thread. Obviously, I'm coming at this with the assumption that SFA is a 32nd-century series, based on the wording of its announcement. If, for whatever reason, you're unconvinced of that fact, I guess... don't participate?

Anyway. Unless something's changed with Mary Wiseman's availability, it's quite likely that Tilly will be involved. Whether she's the lead, who's to say, but she'll presumably factor in a major fashion.

Beyond Tilly, I have a few guesses. Adira will be there - a recurring character. Gray may guest-star a couple of times by proxy. Kovich will also recur. David Cronenberg's own words: "I'm cheap and available." I could see them bringing Detmer in as an instructor, perhaps promoting her actress outright to main cast.

My wildcard here is Anthony Rapp sticking around as Stamets. If there's enough room in the budget to keep paying two Discovery leads, I think it'd be him. Stamets as an esteemed professor just feels right to me. Rapp could play the hell out of that role with ease. This invites the question, 'well, what about Hugh?' A guest appearance or two would be enough, I think, so long as the POV cast is generally the classmates.

I don't think the producers will be able to resist the urge to bring Sonequa in a couple of times throughout the show's tenure. I don't mean that in a bad way; I'd welcome a bit more Burnham. One more pop-up of Saru also seems apt.

I guess what I'm getting at is that just about everybody will show up at some point or another. And ultimately, that's what has me interested in this show at all despite not enjoying most teen-centric television, is that Discovery may be ending, but it's not ending as definitively as it otherwise would have. That's a big, big thing for me. If, somehow, this isn't in the 32nd century... lord, I'll have a tough time tuning in, personally.
Approximately 57% of them will eventually appear.

It's calculated. That is the way.

There are a couple of other characters that could appear.

Vina, as a hologram. She can detail life in the first half of the 23rd century.

The Talosians. I don't think its ever been established how long Talosians live. So, it's possible that they are still alive in the 32nd century.

Tilly and Culber would be my ideal hold overs from Discovery. Book, too, though I'm not sure how you'd work him into the setting...

I hadn't thought about Stamets, but he would be great.

Given the current climate, Zora (an AI intelligence with a personality) I could see becoming the computer for all of the Federation, and thereby a character in a Starfleet Academy show.

I hope it happens, it would be a very Star Trek-y thing to do.

The one character that I hope comes over is Dr. Kovich.

David Cronenberg on getting his role on Discovery...
I’m cheap and I’m available. I live in Toronto, and it’s being shot in Toronto.

Fingers crossed.

Not the right showrunner, but they seem fairly sure!

For making that decision he deserves:

To be beating all over with a Bamboo stick.
To have salt rubbed into the wounds.

I would think all DISCO main/recurring characters COULD appear.

For sure:
1) Tilly
2) Vance
3) Kovich

Likely:
1) Rillak
2) Willa

More probable than not:
1) Adira
2) Gray
3) Burnham
4) Saru
5) Stamets
6) Culber
7) Reno

Perhaps:
1) Detmer
2) Owosekun
3) Rhys
4) Nilsson
5) Bryce
6) Pollard
7) Christopher
8) Ina

This American says, "More Kiwis please!"

Why hello.

Kiwi accent has never shown up in Trek, though the South Island was shown to be a rather lush looking prison colony, while the North Island hosted that damn "Pennington School in New Zealand" Jake Sisko was fond of mentioning.

Has been one Aussie accent, though (the Romulan kid in Picard).

Hats off to Battlestar Galactica and The Expanse for letting Kiwi actresses use their real accents (Lucy Lawless and Frankie Adams, respectively).

I presume Tilly will star.

Stamets is the most academic minded. Culber makes three.

I don't think she will star so much, but will be in every episode. The show will be about the cadets. I think Mary Wiseman will be in the credits as the last character, '....and Mary Wisemand as Commander Tilly'.
The show will not be about her as the lead. It's Starfleet Acadamy, so the focus should be on the cadets, not the instructor.

We'll see how it goes though. In seasons 1 and 2 I was a huge fan of the character, who was quirky and fought her insecurties to become something more. Then it seemed as if they made her character all about being quirky and insecure and she felt less like a developed character. Hopefully this new show will make better use of what was one of the top tier characters for the show for me at first.
