Well, I have lost my passion for Star Trek recently but have finally found the time to watch season 2 episode 1.

I rate The Broken Circle both 5/10 and 15/10 because this episode was both equally good and bad in places. :techman:

Why could Picard season 3 not have a budget like this though? Perhaps Star Trek: Legacy, or whatever the 25th century continuation will be known as, since it will no longer be called ‘Star Trek: Titan’ either, will have a good budget like SNW has?

If Picard had had twice the budget it did, they would have spent it on the same things. Their problems were in the word processor.

Probably not but that's due to the market.

But, I think, the issues is less the budget and far more how the writing services the characters.

I just think that this show looks and sounds spectacular on every level and the dollar really shows. This weeks episode was like a mini self contained mindless blockbuster film, such as Guardians of the Galaxy, for example. This show is *so* much fun to watch. :)

BTW, April said that if Spock hijacks the Enterprise again he will lose his command, Spock *does* steal the Enterprise again in The Menagerie… why were events from The Broken Circle not brought up in Spock’s tribunal?

This raises an even bigger question; why is the Enterprise so easy to steal, in general? Spock’s stealing of the Enterprise in this weeks episode surely would have raised a few red flags within Starfleet and they would have put sufficient safeguards in place to prevent this type of thing from happening in the future?

Spacedock Flight Controller: “Sir, someone is stealing the Enterprise…. Again!”

Admiral April: “…..Spoooooocccckkkkkk!” *

*
Sounding just like that one time when Kirk shouted khaaaaaaaaaan! With April’s voice echoing around Spacedock this time though instead of the Genesis cave.

This would lead to a new revised scene in the Star Trek III reboot with Kirk stealing the Enterprise:

Excelsior crewman: “Sir, someone is stealing the Enterprise…. AGAIN?!”

Captain Styles: “Spock…? It *can’t* be Spock?! Kirk?! …Angel?”

Crewman: “Admiral Cartwright said that it could be his Katra, sir!”

Captain Styles: “Get me Fleet Admiral April! Bonnnnnnnnnnnes!!!!!!” *

*Again, sounding like Kirk in the Genesis cave. :D

I mean, each time there is a different way. Spock fakes orders fron Kirk the next time and Kirk has a whole team.

Safeguards are great but rarely perfect.

But there are also two more occasions where the Enterprise was also stolen by people with family connections to Spock, if not stolen by Spock himself. His half brother, Sybok and also on a separate occasion Sybok’s ex spouse, Angel have commandeered the flagship. I do not think that Sarek has ever commandeered the Enterprise (we cannot count Journey to Babel), though the potential is still there during the rest of Strange New Worlds run should the writers need another pirate like mission connected to Spock and his kin. Sarek would be able to get away with stealing the Enterprise as he has Ambassadorial immunity and could pull some strings with the Vulcan High Command. Technically, Sarek indirectly persuaded Kirk to steal the Enterprise during the Genesis instance, he could easily have offered a Vulcan ship for the mission as an option?

It is also possible that T’Pring will hijack the ship in order to get to her wedding one day, or even to save her true love Stonn by stealing the Enterprise off Spock himself, which would kind of be twisting the knife in a bit but would add to the dramatic effect of their separation?

Perhaps targeted safeguards should be put in place to prevent Spock and his family from hijacking the Enterprise, rather than general safeguards, that should be more achievable and effective at preventing the Enterprise from being stolen. :techman:

We need an episode where T’Pring meets Stonn, he’s all kinds of awesome, she struggles against falling in love with him but it’s an irresistible force of nature thing. And then she nobly walks away from him anyway to keep her word to Spock, only to find out about his shenanigans with Christine and that other chick.
And NOW we have the set-up for Amok Time.

She flat out told him that by the time of TOS Spock had become a legend and she could no longer be the consort of a legend. His career kept him away but Stonn was always there for her.

I mean, the breaking point for T'Pring was Spock's duty first mentality and him never being around.
That isn’t enough to make her force him into a duel to the death. In my mind, anyway.
But sacrificing for someone over and over again, putting them first, and then finding out they were betraying you?
That’ll put a fire in your belly to see the bastard choke in his own blood.

Maybe. I don’t know. :biggrin::whistle:

Why not? He puts work first and she needs an out that will satisfy Vulcan tradition.
