Spoilers What other "special episodes" do you want to see on SNW?

Do they really, though?
Yes.
"Strange New Worlds"- New alien. Problem to solve. Team work
" Children of the Comet"-New aliens. Problem to solve. Team work. Wonders of space
"Ghosts of Illyria"- Newish aliens. Problems to solve Team work. Ship in danger.
"Spock Amok"- New aliens. Problem to solve. Team work.
"Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach" New aliens. Problem, which that cant solve.
"The Elysian Kingdom" New alien. Problem to solve. Team work.

I'll give you these ones. I'll even raise you the Rigil episode and the first one of S2, which puts us at 6 out of 17, including the upcoming musical episode.

"The Elysian Kingdom" New alien. Problem to solve. Team work.
"Spock Amok"- New aliens. Problem to solve. Team work.

Not these two. One was a fairy tale dress-up episode, and the other a body-switching hijinks episode at a starbase. Pretty much every episode we see involves teamwork to some varying degree, so maybe I shouldn't have used that as a criteria. ;)

Anyway, point being, I'd like more of the episodes of the type listed up top, and less of the stuff on the bottom. That's just me, though. To each their own. I'm glad so many people enjoyed the LD crossover- that means it wasn't a waste. I personally didn't care for it.

I have no interest in Kirk episodes. I'm sure there are those who love it.

Found my original Romulan idea that was on my long defunct website

I mean technically, that idea with the ENT cast could still happen, if we are going to do a flashback to the Romulan War. You could even add Jeffrey Combs to it, as he did voice a Romulan commander in the Elite Force II game. As well as Romulan version of Soval and T'Pau, for obvious reasons.

Are there any particular exploration episodes would you want to see? There’s no shortage of possibilities.
  • First Contact with the Fibonians (mentioned in Beyond)
  • First contact with Jaylah’s species
  • First contact with The Schlerm (who have been featured in both Disco S4 and Beyond)
  • First contact with the Alshain (who are seen in DIS S4)
  • First contact with the Aamaarazan (TOS movies and DIS S4).
  • First contact with the Pandronians (Bem’s species from TAS)
  • An episode with the purple skinned people. (as seen in “Journey to Babel”, TVH, BEY, and again in LD, and on MA are only identified as Volis’s species).
  • Visit the Barzan world and see what is their resourceless society is like (a possible M’Benga/Pelia/La’an/Sam Kirk episode)
  • Bynars in the 23rd century and we explore not just the world of Bynaus, but discover what dating a bad Bynar is like (seems like a Chapel/Ortegas/Uhura episode)
  • The Berengarian dragons (Spock said he saw one pre-TOS)
  • Another world like symbiotic creature's world in the ENT episode “Vox Sola”, but the symbiotes are bioluminescent like in the ENT episode "Rogue Planet".
  • A new space dwelling creature, such as the Pycan space moth. (It was mentioned in ENT, but never seen)
  • A Denebian slime devil on Deneb V (can devour humans)
Just off the top of my head.

A documentary episode. The Rookie has done this a few times and I’ve enjoyed them.

Yes to this. I could see them also making a documentary episode like The Office as well.

A crossover with a non-Trek show, two episodes set on and off the holodeck (which exists in TAS, and SNW is loose as hell with continuity anyway)

  • In our crossover show, the Trek cast are guest stars, in their roles and it's all played 100% straight.
  • In Star Trek, they're LARPing. The holodeck goes wrong and our crew has to stop rogue sentient hologram crossover character from destroying the universe or whatever.

I agree with most of this. Though what if their holodeck - which also existed in DIS and in TAS was called the recreation room, - doesn't malfunction. Its just limited. And there is no destroying the universe; instead, the crew can't fathom a holodeck character leaving the holodeck.

Regeneration ii, Sam finds that pair of borg drones archer blew out an airlock 100 years ago. It should intentionally have the vibe of a cheap horror movie sequel.

I’ve been thinking about this idea. You might be on to something here. As there is an undeveloped ENT story that was also supposed to revisit the origins of the Borg.

You see, there was supposed to have been a Borg Queen origin story for the fifth season of ENT, revealing the Borg Queen to be a medical technician in Starfleet. Personally, it would not have worked for ENT at the time, as the Borg Queen is not human; humans are designated Species 5618 while the Borg Queen is from Species 125, the specific species has never been revealed in canon. It would have been a major retcon to make her human. But other ideas still have merit.

So, what if there was a story where the Enterprise crew do encounter those assimilated Tarkaleans from ENT? And the Borg Queen is serving in Starfleet onboard Pike’s Enterprise when this happens. What if there was a twist that revealed that the Borg Queen was a Lanthanite who has been serving since the launch of NX-02, having been obsessed with Archer’s encounter with the Borg as she was supposed to be a part of the Arctic One team that got assimilated, and has been looking forward to them since serving in United Earth Starfleet?

It hits all the notes.
  • A possible Halloween episode.
  • Another ENT reference; this one, in addition to a callback, is also a chance to develop Columbia NX-02’s lore a bit.
  • It’s still a Sam Kirk story
  • Explains the origin of the Borg Queen

The episode where they explore a strange new world and meet fresh, new aliens with a cultural or some other kind of twist that puts the ship and crew in peril, requiring them to work together to achieve a satisfactory conclusion.

One not focused on any particular character, their arc, angst, relationships, or growth. Something that leaves me in awe of the wonders of space and infinite diversity in infinite combinations.

Yanno, some of that exploration shit.

Can you please explain to me what great episodes of older Trek actually qualify under this pretty exacting set of qualifications?

"Alien of the week" episodes of Trek tend to be pretty mid, IMHO. Particularly if they don't bother actually to have a coherent character arc for someone.

Peck vs.Quinto.
With a view screen Nimoy watching on.

I’m going nowhere near the musical episode. No where near.

I'll admit "borg queen origin" was not a "season 5 could have been" that I particularly liked, but I've also resigned myself to the reality that paramount just can't help themselves when it comes to the borg, so anyway...

I'd agree that a Lanthinite would cover the species designation discrepency, and with such a small local borg network, and her several lifetimes worth of experiences most of which probably being time periods where earth was dominated by monarchies and dynasties it would go a way to explaining how the borg adapted a queen figure. Then you just have to come up with how she got her fledgling collective to the delta quadrant where she would presumably corrupt the rest of the borg with her overwhelming boomerness.

Bring back the Red Angel suit, sans time crystal, to open up artificial wormholes? It would also explain the interest in time travel.

I think it’s definitely time to get T’Pol back on Star Trek. She was by miles the best part of Enterprise and thanks to the lifespan of Vulcans you don’t even need any time travel hijinx to make it happen.

Other than that, I think SNW has been doing a pretty bang up job of using its 10 episodes to explore a bunch of tones and settings. The best part of this show is the variety and how it uses the strength of its ensemble to make the tonal shifts week to week still land.
