I just thought it was a call back (or call forward) to the space hippies episode in TOS."Space Hippy?" They still remember hippies?

This episode felt too long. I think there are a few episodes this season that could have been tightened up
There were space ships in Buffy? If Buffy taught me anything, it's that I want my soap operas with space ships and rocket launchers!
Wesley's delivery of those lines was fantastic! He really made me laugh.Favorite line:
"Oh! You're friends with Sam!"
"I really don't want to be hit on right now."
"Ehhhhh. You're friends with SAM."
Yes! It was wonderful to see what their relationship was/is like. And obviously their father casts a HUGE shadow over them both.I haven't seen anyone give massive props for how believable Sam and Jim are as brothers. They're terrific.
I would follow Pike into hell. He's rapidly become my favorite captain.I LOVED that moment, because when Pike backs his crew up, he backs them up 100%. I love it.
Hmm... I like that. It explains why we see him really dislike people who are petty or incompetent. And (just spitballing here) almost a kind of assumption on Kirk's part that everyone ELSE is as awesome as he is! Which is why he's kind of baffled by Sam. And why he connects with Uhura so quickly!
Of all of the nods to TOS, obscure or otherwise, my absolute favorite is still Sam's mustache.
That *is* a Trekkie superpower! She remains highly amused at my picking out an episode from the next room based on a couple of opening chords on the audio.
If they still know what an ink well is, then sure. They still know what a gas station is?
I suspect that what we'll actually be thinking is, "Wow, that's makes so much sense." I'm sure SNW will leave things so Amok Times fits right in.Can you imagine if we really watched X number of seasons of SNW and THEN watched TOS? How FURIOUS we would be at Amok Time?
So now with Korby dead and T'Pring with Stonn, there's no obstacles to Spock and Chapel finally getting together for good right? Right? Can you imagine if we really watched X number of seasons of SNW and THEN watched TOS? How FURIOUS we would be at Amok Time?
Indeed. It builds upon characters, and relationships and adds to the drama of what actually occurs. It's almost tragic in a way. Kind of like Shakespeare, which Trek may or may not have an affinity for.I suspect that what we'll actually be thinking is, "Wow, that's makes so much sense." Aside from whatever pain they endured leading to that point, or just the fact that it plain doesn't work for them.So now with Korby dead and T'Pring with Stonn, there's no obstacles to Spock and Chapel finally getting together for good right? Right?
Someone on the writing team loves Shakespeare; they’ve used phrases from his work for episode titles.Indeed. Time alone will tell.
I think it started right about here.Someone on the writing team loves Shakespeare; they’ve used phrases from his work for episode titles.
Giles's Citroën.There were space ships in Buffy?![]()
Just one more reason to be a Trekkie.I think it started right about here.
I think they just wanted the gag in the first episode of talking about Kirk coming aboard and then at the end we find out it's Sam Kirk.I'm not loving this whole thing of having Sam Kirk on the Enterprise. We don't need to see Jim Kirk in this series IMHO, so we definitely don't need his brother either, who showed up already deceased in a single episode of TOS. To me this was always an odd choice on the part of the show-runners.
Are you a Danger 5 fan, perchance?*sensible chuckle*
True. Kirk and Shatner are so intertwined it's tough for another actor to step into the part.I mean, I think something we all gotta accept here is that nobody, and I mean nobody, is William Shatner except William Shatner. Nobody playing Kirk is ever going to embody the particular brand of charisma that Shatner brought to the role. And if we just start from that premise and let go of the idea that anyone's going to recapture Shatner's Kirkness, I think we can start to open ourselves up to new interpretations of the character.
Yep.I go the other way. I think there has been a big sign in the writer's room that says "(We met) when he was promoted to Fleet Captain." And someone figured out a credible way to unlock that. Well done. Because there is a tiny portion of nerds (and we're ALLLL here) who the moment we heard "Fleet Captain" shouted "KIRK!"
She had to have felt something, as she knew Spock was undergoing Pon Farr. A biological imperative to mate doesn't make much sense if only one gender feels it.(And T'Pring was not going through Pon Farr. I'll die on that hill.)
Well, yes, in that her and Spock were bonded so she would feel his desire. She had to have felt something, as she knew Spock was undergoing Pon Farr. A biological imperative to mate doesn't make much sense if only one gender feels it.

That thing that had the glowing tail where everyone talked like cowboy folk? There were space ships in Buffy?![]()
The handful of frames where we saw Sam Kirk in TOS it was Shat with a mustache. Like I said. Best. Callback. Ever.
Funny man.I suspect that what we'll actually be thinking is, "Wow, that's makes so much sense." I'm sure SNW will leave things so Amok Times fits right in.
I've seen too many Whedon shows to trust THAT.So now with Korby dead and T'Pring with Stonn, there's no obstacles to Spock and Chapel finally getting together for good right? Right?
Dagger of the MindSomeone on the writing team loves Shakespeare; they’ve used phrases from his work for episode titles.
Great Odin! Is Hemsworth that young??!? (OK, they're about a year apart.)I was joking that Hemsworth should return to play the dad but Paul Wesley is actually older than him
Not JUST. But boy did it work. Best. Callback. Ever. (See above.)I think they just wanted the gag in the first episode of talking about Kirk coming aboard and then at the end we find out it's Sam Kirk.
You almost had me. But then...She had to have felt something, as she knew Spock was undergoing Pon Farr. A biological imperative to mate doesn't make much sense if only one gender feels it.
Now whether or not that is enough to imply the compulsion to meet, I can't say. But there is certainly social pressure.Well, yes, in that her and Spock were bonded so she would feel his desire.
If this had been out of nowhere that might have been surprising. But this is 1000% on brand for SNW Christine.I find it interesting that Chapel actually now has Spock, but is not sure how to react.
I say that often. Nimoy was even more unique than Shatner. I mean even Captain Von Trapp had a kind of Kirkness. (I wonder who his understudy was?)While I agree with you on this, you could similarly say that there's no actor quite like Nimoy, and yet I don't have a problem accepting Peck as Spock
That does help. Even Chevy Chase can LOOK like Spock.Maybe the makeup helps set Peck in our minds as Spock.
That's because Pine is AMAAAAAZING.Oddly, it was easier for me to see Pine as Kirk than it has been with Wesley.
