Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

And as of this afternoon, it's gone. I'm glad I finished last night.

Though apparently there are still some options, as Gizmodo explains:

https://gizmodo.com/star-trek-prodigy-paramount-plus-where-to-watch-buy-1850577267
All 20 episodes of Prodigy can be purchased digitally through Amazon Prime Video; in the U.S., the first half of the season is available to purchase on Apple TV, Vudu, Youtube TV, and Google Play. If you’re based in the UK, the full season one is currently available to purchase through the Sky Store, as well as through Apple TV, Youtube TV, and Google Play.

And the first half-season is on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Correction to my earlier post: Gizmodo's article misspoke, as only the first 10 episodes are for sale on Amazon Prime Video. The other 10 are on the list but marked "This video is currently unavailable."

I'm gonna miss this theme music being attached to new episodes.
(1) I hadn't noticed, but the ascending part of the main theme sounds a bit like the most famous theme in the finale of the Sibelius 5th.
(2) It occurred to me this morning, watching 1x04/1x05, that the full orchestration of the open sounds (especially the descending figure, that sounds vaguely like a few bars of Irving Berlin's "Count Your Blessings," which I also only just now noticed) like it would actually sound good on a theatre organ.

Keep in mind, when I notice that certain pieces sound like certain other pieces, that this is no accusation of plagiarism; rather, more in the sense of "nothing new under the sun: it's all been done before" (Sherlock Holmes paraphrasing Ecclesiastes). And that the first few measures of the scherzo of Dvořák's 9th sound almost exactly like the corresponding measures of the scherzo in Beethoven's 9th, before taking off in a completely different direction. And that Bill Conti's The Right Stuff sounds rather like the opening movement of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto had a love child with "Autumn" from Glazunov's The Seasons ballet, with the slow movement of the Dvořák 9th serving as midwife.

From Reddit, an image from a card on Prodigy's (S1) writers' wall. Interestingly, the question "why was the Protostar in an Asteroid" hasn't really been answered yet. I wonder if the writers intent to reveal more in S2, or if we have gotten all the answers we are gonna get.

There are several reasons why the Protostar would have ended up in an asteroid.
Depending on how far back in the past it emerged when Chakotay sent it back (the anomaly was unpredictable that way) using automation... because the ship also already carried the weapon onboard, it would have potentially infected a SF ship if it came across one.
Another possibility was that if it was discovered by another species or it reached SF during the TNG era, it could have polluted the timeline immesurabely.

Its likely that Chakotay plotted a course to Tars Lamora (or Hologram Janeway did) because he may have originally found it prior to encountering the anomaly (or it may have been encountered by Voyager's long range sensors [and at the time it was just logged but never investigated by the crew], and because it has an abundance of Chimerium (which is used for cloaking - something the UFP doesn't use), it would have been a perfect place to hide the ship.

Given that the Diviner knew the Protostar was somewhere inside Tars Lamora, it suggests he emerged in a similar point in time the Protostar had and he was able to pick up a degraded protowarp signal which dissipated atTars Lamora.

That it was deliberately sent to a place full of Chimerium (to make it even more difficult to find) is a good suggestion.

The ramp of the Protostar was also lowered though, no explanation for that one yet. Normally it shouldn't have been, unless someone/something left the ship that way or unless visitors were expected. It's also strange that it was deep inside Tars Lamora (in a mine shaft, more or less), with particularly high concentrations of Chimerium in its direct environment.

If I'm not mistaken, Prodigy writers did mention that hiding the Protostar in an asteroid rich in Chmierium was an intentional one because of how the story unfolded (back when they were sharing snippets and vague details of the story).

So, I merely filled out the blanks as to how Chakotay (or holo Janeway) would have known about where to send the ship to and keep it hidden (probably the asteroid was logged on long range sensors by VOY crew when they were close to the AQ (season 7), or Chakotay found it when he first jumped to the DQ with the Protostar and did some exploration (this would have been before encountering the temporal anomaly, maybe days or weeks - depending on how long Chakotay was in the DQ before encountering the anomaly).

As for why would the ramp open up to the touch when the ship was powered off... well, its possible the ship has a form of passive sensors embedded in its hull that don't require active power, and there may have been a residual charge in the hull left to open the ramp - or, the ship was in extremely low power mode with most systems fully shut down and only a select few (such as the door mechanism) had some residual charge to open up when the door was touched.

Not sure... but the Protostar is an experimental ship, so passive touch sensors etc. could be something to provide crews with access to a ship in the case of catastrophic power failure or something like that... though, passive sensor technology which doesn't need active power to work exists in real life... so its just possible SF (because it has access to advanced materials) can make more elaborate versions of passive technology.

Aaron Waltke giving a tease for a season 2 episode (that we hopefully will see, one day...): https://twitter.com/GoodAaron/status/1680019667489005568

As for the nomination mentioned in the post above, this was the one for eps 1-10 that wasn't won in the end (though Prodigy did win for production design, with Taini). Hopefully another nomination for 11-20, later on.

I do like Aaron Waltke, but that tweet was too "Studio Suit" for my liking. I get he needs to hype up his product, but that is too much praise to give one episode.

Except the show is cancelled. So the hype is pointless unless they can find someone else

The hype is necessary to make it attractive to potential buyers. If there's no buzz why pay for it?
Exactly. Aaron Waltke, along with the Hagemans, have been pushing for the "save Prodigy" campaign and of course they want to hype up their product for potential purchasers (as in the Netflixes and other Amazons) and for the viewers they would have to be promising to whoever takes over the broadcast rights.
