I quit watching this show towards the end of the first run of episodes, and now I see that was a huge mistake. I've spent the last few days catching up on the rest of the first season, and I was really impressed with how Admiral Janeway was brought in and the character growth the crew went through. This series really is something special.

Mistake? I don’t think so. You granted yourself the power to binge.

I've had the first DVD set for a few months. Broke the seal this morning. Probably going to start on it this week. From what I'm reading, I'm guessing that one of CLB's true masterpieces of TrekLit may have been unceremoniously cast upon the refuse heap called "directly contradicted by canon."

    I hope not.

If you're talking about Zero the Medusan vis-a-vis The Higher Frontier, I don't think there have been any irreconcilable contradictions yet. But heck, most of my Trek lit has already been overwritten by new canon thanks to Picard and Strange New Worlds. That's just the natural fate of any tie-in to an active, ongoing franchise. Indeed, it's the inevitable fate of all science fiction that it will eventually be contradicted by real-life scientific progress (or lack thereof) and the passage of time. We don't write SF or tie-in fiction to "get it right," we just try to offer entertaining speculations. There is no "refuse heap," since there is no true or false in fiction, just different ways of imagining possibilities.

Surprisingly - but welcomely - the depiction of Medusans, Humans and Brikarians has not contradicted info we know about their species yet.

Pog was a little bit different from other Tellarites we've seen, but at least they have shown canonical-looking Tellarites, and they successfully hung a lampshade on his looks when he talked to that one Dauntless officer.

Agreed. It irked me in particular that he looks like a Talaxian. The hair, the mottled skin, the cleft chin.
But seeing different versions of Tellarites side by side, I can accept species variety. Maybe even welcome it.

I'm pretty sure everyone knows what is meant ;)
Otherwise: not all depictions, only those made by CBS/ParPic. :p

Exactly this. I had a similar issue with it in the beginning, erroneously thinking it was simply nothing more than a stylistic choice for a children’s show. Once it was explained that his differences had meaning, it felt right.

I thought people might like to see this little clip of Rod extolling the virtues of Prodigy:

I assume this is a clip from a Delta Flyers’ Patreon exclusive but it’s very short and hopefully shouldn’t discourage people from becoming supporters of the Delta Flyers podcast. It’s a fun podcast and I heartily recommend it and support it myself with my own meager mite.

Clearly a smart move with todays news buying physical product for Prodigy.

What news would that be? I've been reading every piece of TrekLit involving Pike-era characters all month, and haven't had time to get past the first episode of PRO. I just this morning finished the Legacies trilogy, Probably going to resume my trip through PRO this evening. And I still haven't cracked the seal on my DSC Season 4 set.
