Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy General Discussion Thread

Star Trek novel publishing is nearly dead but I wonder if we could get a PRO Relaunch series that continues the characters lives?

They said they'd be shopping it around to other broadcasters/streamers. I'd be amazed if someone didn't jump at the chance to pick it up, and maybe even renew it for more seasons. Cancelled shows have been revived on different networks many times.

It's amazing how quickly we've come to assume that shows can only be distributed by the studios that make them. It used to be, for most of the history of TV, that any given studio had shows on multiple networks at once. The modern trend of consolidating both creator and broadcaster under the same corporate master is an aberration, and the bursting of the streaming bubble underlines what a bad idea it is. I think it's likely that we'll eventually go back to a system where studios just make the shows and let other people broadcast them, since trying to do it all in-house is proving not to be profitable.

Although I admit, I do like the convenience of having all a studio's shows or movies in one place, which makes rewatches or first-time franchise watches easier. But as long as it's all airing somewhere, it's all good.

The one frustrating thing is that P+ is removing the show with hardly any notice, for purely monetary reasons, rather than keeping it up until they arrange for someone else to take it. That's what they'd do if the people in charge cared at all about their creations rather than just the numbers in their ledgers.

Or screwed under.
Not quite sure how this would get them a tax write-off. Then again, I don't write anything off my taxes.
They don't have to pay residuals. So might be more a strategic move for saving money.

Yes, I know, money=bad but that's what they're trying to save right now.

Well that sucks. That was a surprisingly good show. Well, here’s hoping that another distributor will pick it up. I just hope it’s not Netflix. They also like to cancel shows before their time. I’m still bitter about Dark Crystal.

Anyone have any idea when the show will be pulled from P+? I only just decided to start rewatching; I'd initially thought I might not be able to finish in time, but today I figured that I could probably get through all 20 episodes within a couple of days. Still, if I knew I had a few more days, I wouldn't have to rush so much.

A friend told me that Showtime stuff was coming on Tuesday, and then I watched a Trekculture thing on Youtube saying it would be Monday. All this is unconfirmed, but I was initially thinking Saturday as that would be the beginning of a new month.

I would like a continuation in novel form, but not if it's aimed at preteens. Some of the characters would be well suited for novelisation though.

I'm gonna miss this theme music being attached to new episodes.
At this point, it seems very unlikely we will never see the 20 episodes that make S2A and S2B. They are going to be finished and it looks like a contract with a Canadese broadcaster allready existed before the cancellation. It also seems unlikely that no other broadcaster (which may indeed include Nickolodeon itself, depending on exactly what deals exist) or streaming service would pick it up "at a discount".

Well, I am unfortunately not going to have time to get through the series again before it's gone, but I did start the first episode just before I went to bed last night and just let it play straight through so at least there's one more viewing as far as the Paramount statistics are concerned. I actually woke up in time to see a bit the final episodes. A symbolic gesture, sure. But other than that and signing the petition it's all that's within my power.

When is it being pulled? I'm three episodes in. I'm hoping to watch two a day and get through it this week.
