You don't have to look further than "The Cage": the reenactment of Pike vs. the Kalar on Rigel VII.Well, as we all know Star Trek never involved combat.
*goes and watches Where No Man Has Gone Before* That's right Kirk. Kick his ass.

Pure speculation on my part: I wonder if M'Benga eventually takes a sabbatical on Vulcan in part to gain greater control over his own turbulent emotions and PTSD from the war? Perhaps while he was studying Vulcan physiology, he was also studying Vulcan meditative techniques and practices to regain his own emotional equilibrium?
Just a possibility that occurred to me while watching the ep.
Or the on-screen dialog where Pike talks about the 'real' encounter 2 weeks earlier:You don't have to look further than "The Cage": the reenactment of Pike vs. the Kalar on Rigel VII.
There's an entire subset of episodes where ST characters get criminally charged. Including a certain Doctor.
You may perhaps want to go back and rewatch the multitude of Trek episodes in which almost everyone of the characters are at one time or another, criminally charged with something.
Including McCoy ... Crusher ... Bashir ... Culbur
For the purpose of creating an interesting episode perhaps. I still stand by my point.
Yes, it does.Well I guess that proves me wrong.
Depends on who's counting. War dead counts for many major conflicts vary.Ummmm how many people died in the Klingon war? I'm pretty sure it was 10,000 or 50,000 or something along those lines in Discovery but this episode gave a crazy high number.
It was ten thousand, but that number was given 9 months before the war ended.I'm pretty sure it was 10,000 or 50,000 or something along those lines in Discovery

Is she? Because she came across as a character we've only met and know nothing about...yet. We know her species, her occupational history and even that she was friends with Amanda. That's actually a lot for the short time she was on screen. We now know more about her than about Miles O'Brien in Season 4 of TNGI am not interested in Pelia. She is a character with a mystery box past.

Chapel doing some Aikido or something is fine with me. However, on several occasions in the fights she is punched in the face by Klingon males. Her facial bones would be shattered and her skull fracture by this. This is just a "tough girl" trope that I hate.My formerly thuggish baby sister just got her BS in nursing. She's 5'9" and about 180 lbs. and could probably own a few people in hand-to-hand combat, but I think she would try to talk a belligerent down now as opposed to during the time of her wayward youth.
And that feeds into the part of this thread about how people can change. If you can't tell, I'm very proud of her.
That's fine. Clearly opinions will vary. I guess I have somewhat more negative view. Inject yourself with this magic juice to get out of a tough situation. I still enjoyed the story. Overall, it was an intriguing setup. I think making M'Benga and Chapel combat medics has a lot of potential. It's not a side we usually see, but it must exist given the history in-universe.I say 'efficient', not 'lazy'.
Humble opinion is that there will be no "relationship" as in, commited long term thing. However, Chapel running to Korby to escape her growing feelings for Spock makes sense to me. You have to set up those feelings first to make it work. I like this retcon of Chapel and Spock as it was clear to me in TOS that Spock harbored feelings for her, and some kind of anguish and guilt. Chapel may be that catalyst the turns Spock from the more approachable and likable guy in SNW to the more forbidding Vulcan in TOS.I’m still quite staggered by Carol Kane’s performance. I like her and am happy to have her on the show, but…what was that? And we thought Amanda Plumber was a bit wacky in PIC…
Also still can’t believe the bizarre M’Benga/Chapel fight scene. I was gawking at the screen not quite believing what I was seeing. How come this drug isn’t used in future Trek? Seems mighty handy if you even a slight-framed nurse can take down Klingons with impunity.
Silliness aside, it was entertaining enough fluff. Although I hate to be one of the canon warriors but this does contradict TOS in that “The Galileo Seven” was meant to be Spock’s first time in command. Also not enthused at the prospect of some Spock/Chapel relationship. The more I think about it, the weaker it seems (and I really missed Pike and Una) so I’ll just chalk it up to a passing grade. It’s nice to have Trek back.
