Piss off everybody and have him resigned from Starfleet and pursuing a clarinet career.

    Or go with Garrett's suggestion.

I could TOTALLY see the LD crew on Earth, hanging out at Admiral Kim's Bar and Grill.

That wouldn't count as Kim showing up as an ensign, because he would be resigned from Starfleet. And like I said, if they're going to listen to anyone, Garrett Wang himself is the logical choice.

Interesting. Since it was said earlier that 2 characters (from the main casts, IIRC) from 2 different legacy series would appear in S2, this may mean that Torres, for example, may not be in S2 ("her place" as additional Voyager alumni being taken by Kim).

So, Kim is probably most likely to be involved with the training of Dal and co, as an officer (one hopes, or not!) under VA Janeway. Not only may he be a good match with the young recruits, he would also be willing to follow Janeway and said recruits on crazy missions to save Chakotay.

Which makes me wonder who the non-Voyager character may be. I'm guessing that the characters on Picard are unlikely, even Riker (who should probably come with Troi in this time period). Which would leave some DS9 characters as the most likely options. Bashir maybe, given his background? Ezri Dax? O'Brien? Or Worf anyway?

I'm hearing that Jason Mantzoukas is also asking people to watch Prodigy S1, on his podcast. It does give the impression that Prodigy is under pressure at Paramount+ and Nickolodeon, and an S3 is far from guaranteed. Especially now that P+ has to cut costs left and right while they are also greenlighting multiple projects (S31, SF Academy,...) at the same time.

However, the writer's strike may end up being a blessing as most of the new content (barring SNW S2, where the writing is probably complete) may end up getting put on hold for quite some time. Besides Lower Decks, more Prodigy may be the only option to offer new ST content on P+. Hopefully that will improve chances.

Then again, it may also lead to P+ shutting down completely...

A propos, new parts of the ST Prodigy OST are out on Youtube, like "Go fast" here:

It's part of Nami Melumad's Star Trek Prodigy Vol 5 playlist.

Too lazy to go through this thread. Should us fans be worried that this wonderful show since it hasn't gotten renewed? It would be a shame IMO. Until season 3 of Picard this was my favorite of the 5 Trek shows and I am 47.

The renewal for season 2 was announced way back in November 2021.

IMO, yes (for season 3 and beyond). Paramount+ is under financial pressure (as are most streaming services at this time), Prodigy's animation is probably relatively expensive to produce even though it is done in India, they haven't announced a renewal in spite of very long lead times (unlike Lower Decks which was renewed), some of the producers and cast are asking fans to (re)watch the entire season on P+ in order to get renewal (with maybe a hint of some level of desperation), many Trekfans seem to ignore it (because animation/children TV) and we don't know how it's doing on Nickelodeon, but a number of related toys being cancelled is not a good sign.

On the brighter side, streaming numbers did look reasonably good according to metrics that were posted recently (but not at Picard levels though) and the writer's strike may end up helping (if it doesn't get resolved soon) as it may create a gap in Star Trek related programming that Paramount may want to avoid, in which case resuming production on Prodigy could be an option.

A bit early to worry about that when season 2 hasn't even aired yet.

If they're planning to release Season 2 like they did Season 1...in two batches of episodes airing a year apart...then the show's short-term "renewal" is a given, as we know we'll be getting the second half in 2024 (or eventually, if affected by the strike).

I disagree. Lower Decks got S5 announced while season 4 has yet to air - but Prodigy didn't get the equivalent announcement. Lead times are long in animation, especially for Prodigy (and other series that use similar 3D-animation). P+ wouldn't want a gap in production, if they want the series to continue. A break also risks people (from the writers' team, for example) to go search for a more stable job, or the firm doing the animation could book other orders and lack time/people to continue production once P+ leisurely gets around to it. The Hageman brothers seem to be worried enough.

I was listening to podcast on Trekmovie and they said they think the future looks bright for both animation shows. He did bring up having season 2 and than a movie in the theatres. Kind of like the Spiderman animation movies.

That's good to hear. There has been talk about a streaming-movie/TV-movie before, but it has been a long time since Kurtzmann has floated that idea.

There are some figures for Prodigy's S1A rating on Nickolodeon USA, though I don't know if those rating are considered good (the person who posted it seems to think so):

That is a great site. Although the army of Chris Pines running the bridge is quite amusing...

I do hope that's exactly what happens. The "poor, dumb, eternal ensign Harry Kim" trope is the result of the showrunners deliberately trying to run down his character. And for decades, the fandom has been happily perpetuating what the bullies set out to do.

However, the plan to include him in Picard as a captain, followed by a retraction of that plan... it just reminds me of how Wesley had his canonical fate established one way in a "Nemesis" scene that was never used, and then completely 180-ed in "Picard". So until canonical events decisively obliterate the whole "forever ensign" business... I'm not celebrating.

Interview by Trekmovie with Aaron Waltke: https://trekmovie.com/2023/05/26/po...eason-2-and-take-our-star-trek-questionnaire/

From 23:32, he talks first about the writer's strike. He is also asked about the state of production on Prodigy S2, and the impact of a potential actor's strike (most of the dialogue has been recorded already). From about 35:00, they talk about S2.

Dal and co are not yet part of Starfleet in the strict sense, they have more of an intern status and must first prove themselves (not really new, of course).

About Gwyn, he says she's not making the long trip to Solum alone, Starfleet will take her "to a certain point" and then let her take it from there (around 41:00). He also restates that Gwyn will remain a major part of the show, so we will follow two sets of plot/story.

At the very end of the interview, he also promises that S2 goes "surprising places".
