Maybe Saru gets killed off before the season finale. We know not much at all at this point.
Or they'll just shoot what is already written. As pointed out above, it has happened before. It would be a very expensive undertaking to have to reshoot the reshoots because they weren't permitted to make changes on set due to the writers' strike.
I can't remember the source but I seem to remember rumors about her joining a theater production in New York during the filming of the season that ended up with her being forced to stay there in quarantine and/or being limited by travel restrictions after a COVID breakout among some of the crew, forcing the Disco writers to shelve most of what was written for her during mid-season. Again, I might be just talking out of my butt here. Was there ever an explanation given for why Mary Wiseman was written off Discovery for several episodes? Was it budgetary? Everything I've read about it was about the journey of the "character" but not the actress.

Since the Star Fleet Academy series is sent in the 32nd century; I'm sure one purpose (but not the only one as I'm sure they're going to have a proper series ending) of the reshoots is to lead into and handoff the 32nd Century elements of the Federation into that show; and perhaps introduce some of its lead characters. If the strike does get in the way of the reshoots, and the strike goes on for a while, they should just release S5 as is with the original ending, and save a "proper" finale for one of those TV movies they're going to be doing, that can be written after the strike is finished.
The season 5 ending is already filmed

Shoot was finished April 26th. It took place over 3 days, and designed to do so before the May 1st strike vote.Source?
So basically nothing earth-shattering. They probably either added something extra, knowing it was the end, or they tied up something that was left hanging for what would've been the sixth season. Maybe both.Shoot was finished April 26th. It took place over 3 days, and designed to do so before the May 1st strike vote.

A short coda or two, I'm guessing probably like the end of Picard. Maybe a time jump, and maybe a few teary eyes.So basically nothing earth-shattering. Third possibility: They shot something quickly that would further set up Starfleet Academy, since that's where it looks like the Disco branch of Trek is heading next.

While I think they'll tie into "Calypso", I think they'll do this in a Mini-Series or TV Movie, not Disco Proper. You can't do a tie-in like that with just one scene. Well, technically you can, but if you're going to go there, then really go there. The most likely added footage is something to tie the end of the series properly into Calypso...which IMHO doesn't need to occur, but ever since they decided to make Zora a character in the third season they seem to be building towards this.

If they want to do a TV Movie every two years, connecting to "Calypso" is the most obvious choice after Section 31. Both are connected to Discovery, but also exist outside of the series' normal scope, making them different enough to justify having TV Movies about.
I'd like to see more of wherever and whenever Craft is from. They can do something with that. And it's a second chance for them to do what I thought they were going to do when Discovery went into The Future.
