I enjoyed it, but I admit my feelings on this season overall are kind of mixed. I feel like there are some genuinely interesting plot threads (the Borg/changeling conspiracy, even if these are mainly rogue changelings) that could have been articulated better, and in hindsight I kind of wish S2 and S3 had both dealt with this story arc. Some elements would have been improved (IMO) if they'd felt less rushed, like maybe giving a better perspective on the fleet's new integration technology and how it could be a great potential strength and not solely a plot-convenient weak spot. :D I also admit that I consider it a mistake to turn the Titan into a new Enterprise, on top of the existing confusion about the ship's design history, and I wish assimilated Jack didn't look like a literal copy of Locutus.

I am curious now, did the damage suffered by the Queen explain why the Borg virus was more selective in only targeting the younger generation? I do still find it kind of silly but that explanation seems a bit more reasonable to me, in the full episode context. I also admit it seemed a tad odd to me to hear Walter Koenig's voice, as I'd think his son would be a bit older in the PIC timeframe. :rommie:

I remember back when AGT originally premiered, I felt like it was a very fitting send off to the TNG crew, and it offered a very interesting perspective on Q and the Continuum as a whole. The final conversation between Q and Picard seems to imply that the Continuum's view of humanity had evolved, and that they felt Picard and others were learning how to adopt new perspectives. I still consider AGT one of the best, if perhaps the single best, Trek finale. :)

The Borg cube was in the eye of Jupiter when it exploded. So shouldn't that have affected Jupiter? When I watched the scene, I half expected the explosion to cause Jupiter to become a protostar.

I'm sure it'll be fixed within a year.

From your comment here I'm guessing you didn't understand Q's explanation.

Having an explanation is not the issue. There can always be in-universe rationalizations and plot devices to justify whatever decision you want to make. The issue is, revealing that before Q died he started harassing Jack in the years subsequent to S2, only undermines the dramatic integrity of S2, since, from an audience POV, it is as though Q will never actually die. For Q's death to be meaningful to the audience, the audience must stop experiencing Q's presence, whether or not that presence is subjectively before his death.

the cube we see in Prodigy was not liberated, but they weren't dead either. Just heavily damaged.

Yeah -- it was dormant until woken up by the presence of the Protostar crew. But we know from previous TNG and VOY episodes that a cube that has no Queen on it can sometimes maintain its own mini-collective for a while. What I'm suggesting is, essentially, that cubes cut off from the Queen may have maintained their mini-collectives temporarily and then those mini-collectives may have broken down and their drones been liberated.

Janeway was not acting as an element of Starfleet in Endgame. She was conducting an illegal modification of the timeline and was doing things unsanctioned and behind everyones back.

She was in regular communication with Starfleet, taking orders and even occasional missions from them by VOY S7. Even if she was acting in violation of the Temporal Prime Directive, she was an agent of the Federation government accountable to that government. The Federation must bear responsibility for her choices.

Settling in to watch. I'm...

Cautious.

Going to love the -D stuff.

Going to love the reuniting of the TNG crew. (This season should have been here by episode 4.)

Going to hate the stuff with The Borg and Jack.

We'll see how it goes. But seeing the -D in action again its a lot for me.

I also admit it seemed a tad odd to me to hear Walter Koenig's voice, as I'd think his son would be a bit older in the PIC timeframe. :rommie:
Walter Koenig is 86. Even if we assume that Anton Chekov was born in 2294 (one year immediately after Undiscovered Country), Anton would be 107 in Picard. I think Koenig is perfectly aged to play a 107 year old, unless you want to find an actual 107 year old able and willing to play the part (good luck with that).

and I wish assimilated Jack didn't look like a literal copy of Locutus.

I liked that part. It was an obvious act of spite from the Queen.

I am curious now, did the damage suffered by the Queen explain why the Borg virus was more selective in only targeting the younger generation?

No, they already explained in "Vox" that the Borg genetic modifications were inhibited when the prefrontal cortext of a brain has finished developing.

I also admit it seemed a tad odd to me to hear Walter Koenig's voice, as I'd think his son would be a bit older in the PIC timeframe. :rommie:

Not necessarily! It would depend on when Pavel became a father. If he had Anton when he (Pavel) was around 75-80, then it's entirely plausible that Anton could be about 80 in PIC.

My thoughts on the finale and on season 3

Season long storyarcs - they're wearing on me. I don't feel like they're always done well. Things are stretched out, ideas aren't fully utilized, characters get pushed aside for plots, the mysteries lose their appeal. I also don't find that enjoyable to rewatch

Antov Chekov - this was a nice bit of fan service and tribute to Anton Yelchin. Walter did a good job of conveying distress and stoicism

Seven's squad - the teleporter guns were a good idea. I like that she had the cook as the pilot.

Seven - I don't feel she was well utilized especially given it was Borg related. But it was great to see her as Captain

Humor - I thought most of the comedy was well done. Riker is my comedic MVP. When his name is said, I will think of him on the top bunk

Riker - Frakes is gold, he sold the comedy and drama. His "last words" emoted sadness and love

Deanna - it was great to see her do some cool stuff but I felt like they've could've done more

Data - I think this version of him is great, it's embracing humanity and age. The way he flew the shop was epic. I especially liked when it above the Borg cube crew

Borg Queen - major props to the people who made her look possible. Alice and the body actor did a great job of making her so horrifying

Jack Crusher - I liked him initially but I didn't care for his direction after the Borg reveal. Just made him feel like a reckless toddler. I found it grating how acted on Seven's bridge and I'm unsure about him being a counselor to her

Found family - I wished they built up this theme for the Titan crew. I would've find Picard's words to have more weight to it

"Picard's" - while I do think this was a nice story for the TNG crew. It just sucks the other interesting character from "Picard" were left behind. It would've nice if they could have at least been in a group scene

Trek's creative summits - are these still a thing? Seems kind of weird several of the shows have used the idea of hijacked ships for their finales

Q - I didn't mind his "return" but I would've preferred Q interact with Jack's crew and not just him

Wesley Crusher - I'm sure it would have been hard to work him in. But it sucks that he couldn't be a part of this season in-story

Titan becoming Enterprise G - a ship has now gotten promoted over Ensign Kim

Shaw - I thought his last episode could've used more with him, his death felt too abrupt. Todd did a fine job of playing a difficult character. I hope he'll be able to return as a guest star or something

Seven's Enterprise show - I hope it gets greenlit. It might be hard with studios tightening their belts and with SNW around. I'm not badmouthing SNW but another Trek show would need a good take to get made

Sounds too Irish. And we all know what TNG thinks of the Irish

Sorry not sorry, that is one of my fav TNG eps for it's ridiculousness lmao.

My only nitpick for this finale is that it seemed to have too many epilogues. The ending kind of dragged a bit. I feel like you probably could have cut the whole scene on the bridge of the Ent-G with Seven and Jack bantering back and forth because the ship warps out. It felt a bit unnecessary IMO.

Agreed. The scene where they power down the D's bridge, cut to poker. That would've been fine.

Q's inclusion was necessary in a swan-song to TNG, a Greatest Hits of Star Trek album so to speak.

I'm glad they didn't skip it just in order to maintain the "dramatic integrity" of season 2, although I can certainly understand how fans of that season would feel differently. I think it was handled well and didn't step on the previous season too much.

The Borg cube was in the eye of Jupiter when it exploded. So shouldn't that have affected Jupiter? When I watched the scene, I half expected the explosion to cause Jupiter to become a protostar.

I don't see any particular reason why it would affect Jupiter. As far as we know, the cube wasn't carrying protomatter or anything known to ignite a star.

Side-note: Jane Edwina Seymour, the actor serving as body double for the Queen, did an excellent job, and the synchronization of Alice Krige's vocal performance with Seymour's visual performance was pretty much spot-on.

Jack Crusher - I liked him initially but I didn't care for his direction after the Borg reveal. Just made him feel like a reckless toddler. I found it grating how acted on Seven's bridge and I'm unsure about him being a counselor to her
Agreed. Encounter at Farpoint Picard tore into Wesley for less. If they wanted to fast track Jack, they should've just made him an enlisted man like O'Brien and leave it at that. Or retcon a Vulcan Science Academy education into his background that Discovery already established as being interchangeable with Starfleet Academy.

President Chekov: "My father always liked to say everything was invented in Russia. I'm not the same. I have a different sort of joking attitude you'll find a breath of fresh air."

Reporter: "Where would you say you get it?"

President Chekov: "A shop a few kilometers outside Sevastopol."

Seriously considering writing a fanfic where we discover that President Anton Chekov is a Russian-speaking Ukrainian who liked to call out his dad on his Russocentric bullshit. ;)
