I beg to differ.
I think the Kelvin is safe from any drastic changes just due to the fact the ship is already very detailed, which is what I think worked against the TOS Enterprise. Even close up, the ship it beautifully textured. I absolutely adore the "high mileage" look they gave her.
Now I don't know if they would have access to the actual CGI model from the film or if they would use the Eaglemoss one, which is also very well done, but they definitely have opinions.
Now granted, we saw the Kelvin in 2233, where she already appeared old. We're almost 30 years later in SNW. So perhaps, if she's still in service, she could have definitely had a refit. I picture her with an updated nacelle, similar to the one on the USS Archer.
The Kelvin is name dropped in the season 1 finale, Kirk mentions his father served on it near the right at a scene end.
No need to disco or SNW ize any more ships.
Well there are no other Starfleet ships in TOS they can redesign.
There was only a single Starfleet ship design in the entire series. Any other design they will have will be brand new.
Are there any more Starfleet ships from TOS?
Just TOS? There was Our Girl, the shuttlecraft, and if you want to stretch it, K-7. TAS added the robot grain ships and the Huron freighter. We did not see another live action Starfleet ship until the Reliant.
I really like the shuttle design as well, but hate the door design.
Seriously, who thought of designing a door like a "Right-Angle Bracket" tetris piece was a good way to make a door?
But the hard angles remind me of a 1980's Lamborghini Countach.
Someone who plays with Legos.
So, being that Picard has come to a close and we're pretty much down to arguing the merits of "Terry Trek," I thought it was maybe time to fire up this thread in preparation for season 2.
What do we think we'll be seeing this season?
I'm hoping we get to see more of The Farragut, being that we know Kirk shows up at some point. I really liked the look if her as I've always liked the sorta "Constitution kitbash look." Much like the Reliant to the Refit. Maybe this time they'll remember to give her' her registry and markings.
I'm also half expecting/hoping to see a live action Cerritos with the Lower Decks crossover.
On top of those I'm expecting some more looks at the Gorn ships, which were interesting.
Lastly, we know we're gonna get a good look at the new D7. Hopefully we get a better look then we got with Discovery. Maybe we'll even get something new from the Klingons....... Bird of Prey...... maybe?
