One thing I will say: I'm really surprised Vadic was killed off in Episode 8. I thought she'd make it to Episode 10 for sure. But there's no way this the last we've seen of Skull Guy.

From what I understand, Episodes 1-4 are Act I, Episodes 5-8 are Act II, and Episodes 9-10 are Act III. In TUC, Chang died after the middle of Act III. That translates to somewhere in Episode 10 in a structure like this.

Skull Guy will have a connection to Jack. That's what Troi will learn and why it disturbed her so much in the Sneak Peak for Episode 9.

Guess there's going to have to be a lot of exposition to tell us how Jack came across this "ancient, weak darkness" and still didn't know he'd met it, nor did anybody else until the rogue changelings got involved.

I have not read this thread, so forgive me if this has come up already.

It just hit me while I was talking to my wife... the connection with Jack.

During the zoom chat earlier, we were positing potential bad guys with red eyes. I didn't think of this then, but I should have.

What if it's the nebula lifeforms from "Imaginary Friend"? They were rather interconnected, clearly telepathic because they read Clara's mind to create 'Isabelle', and red was their color. Plus, we spent the first 4 episodes in a nebula this season. Coincidence?

(I know my reasoning has a bunch of holes and is farfetched. I'm grasping at straws because I don't want it to be the Borg or pah-wraiths.)

Red and Blue work the other way over here lol. Kind of.
Yeah in most of Europe I think. Even Americans used to refer to communists as 'the reds'.
The US main parties only switched positions a few decades ago. For a long time, the Reps were the progressive left ones, and the Dems were the conservative right ones. I guess they just kept their colors after they switched sides

Picard addressed new Data as commander.

Does this mean that the new Data is automatically a member of Starfleet with the rank of Lieutenant Commander? Does he continue his status as a member of Starfleet where he left off when he died in the Nemesis?

Check out the Starfleet uniform from Data when everyone gathers in the conference room. There are no rank pips on it. Why?
In the next episode, we need the real Maddox (Brophy) to show up and figure out if this is the real Data with his rank or just a toaster. :D

I do love this moment:

So now we know the holo thing has her in different poses... :D

Since Vadic was thrown out the viewscreen, which is often a window nowadays, did she get the classic political opponent treatment? :D

Mystery boxes typically end up being far less interesting than they’re built up to be.
Because the box is almost always a huge box that is mostly empty. So the feeling is exactly like when someone pranks you with a large present that only has socks in it. You're surprised by the contents (although you suspected what might be in there anyway) but it's still a bit underwhelming.

Even if you actually wanted socks. :)

This was a very frustrating episode riddled with annoying nostalgia factor. Very frustrating. At least Vadic is dead, because she was annoying as hell. I can't stand over-the-top villains in a production that is not a comedy or a parody. And why weren't Shaw, Seven and Raffi at that meeting inside Shaw's Ready Room? They should have been there. And I still cannot stand this series' habit of stretching out the narrative with tension-filled discussions and/or conversation, punctuated by one or two moments of action. Raffi successfully fighting Changelings? The idea of anyone successfully fighting Changelings make little sense to me.

Why would a Bajoran call himself Matthew Arliss Mura? Surely, he would formally use his surname first.

There are reasons why one might not. He might have been raised in a human culture. He (or his family) might have assimilated into a non-Bajoran society. Even Ro commented way back when that many post-occupation Bajorans had dropped the custom of family name first, given name second.

I wasn't crazy about how Shaw herded everyone into the Ready Room (way to create a room full of targets).

Shaw is naive, too trusting. He's expecting honorable behavior from dishonorable people.

I've outlined in detail over the course of two responses why this entire scenario (nevermind her calling Jack up to the bridge) makes literally zero sense and actually severely undermines her credibility as a worthy adversary.

I couldn't care less if it's not a bomb and just a total bluff. He could be coming up with a pizza delivery for all I care. The same issues remain: they had no security posted anywhere. They had no idea who was coming up at all. That's tactical incompetence.

They are space pirate vengeance blobs, not the Romulan Empire. Their strategy is big guns, terror, and hoping no one notices they have vital organs now.

The trouble is that they do seem to have successfully shown (dare I say!) Romulan stealth. They seem to have taken over the entirety of Starfleet command without it coming out. They also showed some nice strategic skills with the 'decoy' theft from Daystrom. You could say that now the end is in sight Vadic has become more cocky and desperate, but she does seem to have become suddenly very stupid and careless now that the plot calls for it.

That’s a whole other wing, Vadic and her crew of birdy-buckets are the attack dogs. There’s a kind of weird sense that apart from her herself, they aren’t even very good at changing shape. Either too damaged or new recruits I guess. Vadic isn’t the boss, and is a bit too nuts to be in charge.

Not quite. It was all because of the 2000 presidential election. Generally, blue meant the incumbent and red the challenger, due to the association of blue with stability and red with change, but not for all networks. But because of how closely 2000 was decided and how long the vote in Florida was litigated, networks realized they needed to coordinate the color assignments to avoid confusion during the extended coverage, and as a result, the entire media was abuzz with talking heads hitting people over the head with the importance of whether a specific swing state would end up blue or red for long enough that the association of Republicans with red and Democrats with blue got stuck in the minds of the public.

I know a lot of people keep screaming "We want Seven as captain of the Enterprise-G or Titan as a new show".

Am I the only one who would love a more understand relationship between Shaw and Seven? She still is learning about Starfleet and being a captain. What it truly means to lead. Shaw actually gave her the honor of taking down the Shrike.

I wouldn't mind a final scene in the last episode where we see the Titan in Spacedock, prepping for leaving. Some banter on the bridge between Seven and the crew. Shaw comes out of his ready room, there's a bit of dialogue, doesn't matter what. He takes his seat, Seven takes hers. He looks at her and says: Commander Seven.... Take us out.

EDIT: I absolutely loved Seven taking a stand and yell in Shaw's face 'My name is Seven Of Nine!'
