The other factor might be Beverly herself and explain why Jack has all these abilities and Picard didn't. I mean Wesley is also another powered child of hers...

Yeah I really hope they tie this into why she disappeared off for 20 years.

Okay, while I do understand the idea that Picard/Jack could be seen as "the next phase of human evolution.."

We need to understand, that isn't gonna happen..why? Because in the 32nd Century the humans we see are not telepaths and all that.

I'm no Anthropologist, but I think Evolution, especially species-wide, takes a lot more than 800 years. I also lean towards Jack being unique.

That's where the Sarek part could come in. Psychic assimilation maybe?

So, not so much the Borg themselves, but the nanoprobes passed on to Jack, plus the latent psychic ability. IDK where the Irumodic Syndrome fits in to all of it.
Beverly’s family had something special that attracted the energy creature for generations and Jack and Wesley likely inherited it from her. Some Humans in Trek do have psi ability and might evolve in a few thousand years to Gary Mitchell and Elizabeth Dehner. Picard’s Irumodic Syndrome might actually be a development along that evolutionary path. Combine all that with the Borg nanoprobes left behind by Locutus and passed on to Jack. Jack’s DNA probably tells the tale to whomever was looking for it.

I know, I'm just saying I don't think it's a new human meta, I think Jack is a one off..I didn't phrase myself clearly on that.

"Is this a rescue mission, or a continuation of the torture?" Oh Mr Frakes, you've still got it. I was rolling.

Also loved Picard's rejoinder to Geordi's changeling check question. Unleash your inner wine snob, Admiral. Now you're properly French.

Next week is the make or break episode. What the hell is Jack Crusher? It's stupid, but these mystery box plots always come down to the reveal. Stick the landing and we'll cheer, more likely bomb with something stupid and poorly thought out and I'll completely tune out. I still really wish they hadn't used this format, and I think the season is rapidly fizzling out from a plot standpoint.

But I'd be lying if I didn't say that seeing these characters back together hasn't been a joy. The little character interactions and moments aren't enough to make the season worth it, but at least I'm not disappointed that I watched (see Picard, S2).

lol
it's just silly. pump out the oxygen on the ship and knock everyone out then.

But it's like how she gave them a random 1 hour deadline the first time she met them.

Apparently, she needs Jack alive, and wasn't sure where he was on the ship, since she had to send goons to find him. I guess cutting off their "sight" works both ways (Ron Moore was right, there's too much damn technology in Star Trek, you have to call out that you're inhibiting the transporters or jamming the internal sensors if you want anything to take any time or effort).

So is Vadic actually dead?

She was in her 'stabilised' human form which is why she reacted to being spaced the same way a human would.

But we've seen a Changeling survive in space before. Though only Laas, and perhaps he had to learn a very specific technique to do it that is not known to the whole species. Some prep-preparation required to hold in enough heat, for example. We've never seen another Changeling do some of the things he could do and Odo certainly seemed to have some trouble dealing with the cold in Treachery, Faith and the Great River (less than Weyoun, but still not tolerating it as though he'd be fine in space).

I can't help but think, if enough of her 'goo' survived the explosion of the Shrike, could someone collect her up, unthaw her, and let her reform?

Guess we'll find out in 9 & 10.

Random theory of the week;

Beverley Crusher is an Illyrian.

Why would a blade even hurt updated changelings? Sure they might be more solid than the originals, but the point of a blade is to cut or stab vital organs. If you have no need for such organs then getting stabbed isn’t going to do much. Unless the henchmen weren’t changelings to begin with. They were infected with changeling goo so they could heal and maybe change outer form, yet they were still solids? This season is definitely a hell of a lot better than last one, but it’s still got its issues.
I feel like they've shown us a pretty consistent reaction of these Changelings to injuries, which is that they do have an initial response as if they are a real person. After a few seconds, they can recover and go goo. But you have a short window where their defenses are down. I feel like it was smart of them to give us a new version of the Changelings, the old ones would be too unbeatable -- even on DS9 the whole gimmick had to be that they mostly held themselves above the fray.

The detail I'm still hung up on is Vadic casually vaporizing one of the Goon Changelings in ep 6. The evil boss casually executing their hapless underling is such a lazy old trope, and it makes no sense in the context of Changelings.

Not for nothing, "Locutus" is latin for "speaker,"
Really? Huh, I can't believe I never stumbled upon that tidbit, this many decades into my obsessive fandom...
