I gave it a 7... and I think I am generous here.
There were some developments, Tuvok was compromised, Jack is apparently a young Professor Xavier and the new changelings are proudly made by Section 31.
But the whole thing dragged so much, the fights, Vadic's blah blah and the endless "Data vs Lore"... they all combined could take 20mins less.
And my 7 mostly goes to the whole Data mess: you KNOW there is Lore in there, why not taking safety measures? like having him restrained or make a remote to turn him off or something.
I mean it's not the first time Lore has caused... Chaos, right?

Maybe I'm just in a crappy mood, but besides Geordi and Data, this did nothing for me. The laughably simple trap and the action scenes were so by-the-numbers they could have been written by an AI. I'm suddenly getting season 2 flashbacks, the show seems to be spinning its wheels.

Hopefully this is just a temporary setback and we're back to the quality of the rest of the season next week.

I’m gonna have to watch this one again. This is the first episode I really didn’t love. I felt like the writers basically said, “ok time for the Vadic backstory exposition episode, how do we get her in a room with Picard?” But the way they go about executing this came off as super contrived and not well thought out.
Vadic being captured immediately hobbled her as a villain- I’m starting to feel her temperament changes completely based on what the plot requires; I’m not really getting the back and forth between her desperate/under-some-kind-of-control-by-the-face personality and her way over the top confidant villain personality.
Meanwhile the idea that at this most crucial moment where the ship is being boarded they would have Data/Lore, clearly unstable, hooked into the ship’s systems seemed very silly and a super contrived way of giving Vadic the upper hand that made the crew look stupid.
I actually was certain at the climax they were going to reveal Lore was the face because it would at least make the villains look smart for orchestrating a plan to get them all in one place and take over the ship. Unfortunately Lore was just causing chaos, and it reduced the plot to more coincidences and contrivances, and the ends here just weren’t justifying the phoned-in plot points.
The “interrogation” scene fell flat for me too. Nothing from Picard about how the vast majority of people in the Federation knew nothing about the experiments or the virus and would never have condoned it if it was public knowledge? Felt weird they get her explanation, don’t attempt any kind of reason/understanding, just “ok I guess we should just shoot her”. Felt off.
I’d like to feel better about this one, maybe I’m missing some things.

So what was the point of capturing Riker and Troi? That really didn’t lead up to Vadic finding the Titan. Unless there’s more going on it’s coming across as a cheap cliffhanger for last week’s episode.

This was the best use of Vadic all season. She wasn’t so cartoony as she has been.

It would’ve been nice to find out more about the Head. What is it and why is it controlling Vadic?

Now Jack is telepathic? What the hell is he? Hopefully we find out next week because it’s driving me nuts.

it was nice seeing Tuvok even if it was a Changeling. I hope we see the real Tuvok. I don’t want his fate hanging at the end of the season.

Who are Vadic’s crew? They don’t seem to be Changeling since they didn’t shapeshift at all.

I give it a 9.

Who was the best known telepath from TNG who had a thing for Picard?

Luxwana. Calling it now. She’s the big bad. And Jack’s real mom. Bev was the carrier. “Explains” how she got pregnant.

(Remember they have her voice ready to use).

I’m Rod Roddenberry and I approve this message.

Man if the real Tuvok and Janeway are dead I am going to be incredibly pissed.

But the Irumodic Syndrome in Picard's human body and in Jack being something else, something apparently living is really interesting.

Yeah, I have two kids under the age of five. I watch the show at 4am not because I want to but because it’s really the only time I have for me. Stringing two hours at a time is possible but not likely. Ten? Impossible.
Binging doesn't need to include all eps in one sitting, 1 to 2 a night, every night until done is what I consider binging.

I have been doing the 4AM thing too because I am up and it helps avoid spoilers. I conk out maybe 30 minutes after the kids.

I'm suddenly getting season 2 flashbacks, the show seems to be spinning its wheels.

I felt this after last week's episode and even asked if anyone was feeling the same way. I was also thinking that I actually think Discovery season 4, which also felt padded, felt like a more satisfying season/story than this. I know people were happy to see the cast back and I'm not saying it's been *bad* - I gave episode 5 a 10 - but I feel like the story has not been told that well. 4 episodes getting to and staying at the nebula, lots of questions still not answered. I think if a similar story did not feature the TNG cast and similar TNG style set design people would not be as forgiving.

One example is: People complain about every season of Discovery having a threat to the federation - well this season of Picard is exactly that and I have yet to see any complaints about that derided season long story plot being used for this season. Seasons 1 and 2 of Picard also had a threat to the federation/existence.

If you don't wanna see spoilers, maybe looking at spoiler threads about the episode you wanna avoid around the time the episodes drop is not such a good plan

As has already been said, you didn't post it "around the time the episodes drop" You posted it nearly a full goddamn hour before they're supposed to. At the earliest they've been going up 30 minutes prior, but I don't think anyone expected it to be up an hour early. Is it really that hard to contain yourself from posting a big ass photo of a spoiler? Is it really that hard to put it in spoiler tags when you know full well that the episode is up early?

It wouldn't have as big of a deal but your attitude about it is really fucking irritating.

Ok, I'm getting tired of them dragging things out. It's taken 7 episodes to learn the what Vadic's motivation is, and we're still no closer to learning what's REALLY going on. Why do these streaming shows always take so long to tell us who the bad guys are and what they want to accomplish? It's time to send all these writers to the School of Getting To The Frakking Point.

It's written by Jane Maggs, who wrote/co-wrote 204, 206, and 207. Maybe she just draws the short straw and gets stuck with the stall a bit episodes?

During filming in January 2022, they had a COVID wave and had to shut down. I wonder if that coincided with the block shooting of 307 and 308. Could explain the ship compliment being extra sparce, and the characters isolated in small groups, making for easier modular filming.

yeah Geordi, get yourself a sandbox or something.

Why would you enter the thread without seeing the episode in the first place?
These threads have also served as a place to discuss the episode before it comes out. There's three pages of discussion before it dropped.

If the episode had already aired then yeah, it'd be silly to come in here not expecting to be spoiled. But as far as many knew it wasn't even out yet. Who would expect to see a giant fucking screengrab of an episode that they didn't think was even out yet?

Letheans, the telepathic red-eyed aliens and criminal associates from Deep Space 9? But why would they be particularly interested in Picard or his genome?

It was a good enough episode, we did get backstory on Vadic and this new type of Changling.

While the desire for revenge is normal, I did find it interesting that Vadic retains the core of what the Founders/Changlings always believed...that they were threatened by the solids and that the Dominion War was a defensive one. I find Vadics pearl clutching to be entirely bullshit considering that they (the Founders) created a biologically engineered species that was addicted to drugs for life itself, genetically controlled and manipulated another group (the Vorta) and created a bio weapon to punish a planet for ...seemingly no reason.

Oh..wait..its only bad because it happened *to them*.

How human.

Otherwise, good enough exposition today. It was nice seeing "Tuvok", but I would have liked to have it be Tuvok-tuvok and not FauxVok..but I'll take what I can get. I really like Tim Russ and wouldn't mind Captain Tuvok making appearances in a Legacy series.

@KennyB and I have spoken on this. Let's drop it.

The episode was known to have dropped in the UK at 9-ish p.m. EST last night. My advice would be that if you want to avoid spoilers, as soon as someone posts that the episode has dropped anywhere (not just on P+ in the US), if you want to avoid spoilers, get out immediately. Open discussion of the episode is fair game at that point.
