There was an older gent in the MLB chat I used to frequent that lived in Weed. Hope he is alright. But, yes, it is right by the Oregon border (relatively) and a popular place for touristyT-shirts.
There used to be a sign when you got off the highway that had two arrows pointed in opposite directions, one arrow pointed towards "COLLEGE" and the other towards "WEED"
OTOH, if a Parliament-class ship is meant to be named for cities with actual parliament buildings, then we'd have been dealing with the USS Victoria, the city where the British Columbia parliament is placed. I've been there. Nice place, but I digress.
None of this rules out a reorganization of the provincial/territorial borders within Canada between now and 2380, of course. And for real-worlds purposes, there's been at least one discussion of Vancouver Island - as we presently call it - separating to become a province itself...in which case the "rump" of "British Columbia" would need a new home city for its provincial parliament/legislature...?
Having seen some pictures from season 3 of ST: Picard, I have an observation about the Echelon-class [link is to Memory Alpha, and contains very minor spoilers]: It looks remarkably similar to one or two of the background starships that hang around Douglas Station - the Type 1 & 3 (according to Memory Alpha) / Unnamed class 1 (according to Ex Astris Scientia). What do you think?

considering how banged up the California ships are, maybe the stripes are used to hide stress fractures in the hullPerhaps the ships can rise in rank and get more color
I can definitely see the resemblance, but as Spike said, it's just a coincidence.
~ Oh, I agree with you and Spike. I wasn't trying to imply that the Stargazer/Echelon was designed to be this type of starship seen on LDS, I just think it's pretty cool that with barely any squinting (good job the LDS ships are always in the distance
) they could be one and the same 
I just noticed this thread was created in 2021 in anticipation of season 2 due to the previous thread evidently being forgotten when season 1 concluded in 2020. Should a mod merge them together?
