Spoilers The Ships of Lower Decks

Was thinking the same thing. I don't have a Cali in STO, sadly - one of those Lockbox ships - it would be cool if they added those variants to the ship customization menus, but 30+ different paint variants might be a bit much for the developers to tackle.

I got one, named it USS Saticoy NCC-75404. ;)
During the episode, I also thought of STO’s customization options and how neat it would be to get the paint job of the Vacaville, for instance. Then they just need to make the class printable through GamePrint and you can have a visually diverse fleet! 70E46419-DB17-4F80-8D8B-EDBA588DE120.jpeg

We can narrow down the variants to:
- one stripe around the bridge and bit of saucer (Cerritos)
- two stripes (Merced)
- filled-in area partially around the sides/edge of the saucer (San Diego)
- filled-in area all around the edge of the saucer (Alhambra)
- full-on "war paint" across the saucer (Vacaville).

Department colors: operations yellow, diplomacy red, science blue.

I have no idea if anyone already addressed this but I had some ideas I wanted to write down just to keep track of them and see what other people thought.

I love Lower Decks and although I understand why some fans are reluctant to call it canon, I view (most) of it as canon and one of the most exciting things about a new show is the new ships it brings to canon. I know these ships have been around since the first season but I haven't seen much about them and they intrigue me.

In this picture there are two new ships- I think. To me, it looks like the left ship and the right ship are mirror images, but flipped, which I am assuming is because they are oriented differently but of the same class, while the middle ship (top, above the station) is obviously a different class.

In the Star Trek Encyclopedia, the USS Portland NCC-57418 from DS9 was a Chimera class starship. To me, it sounded like a small frigate or destroyer sized vessel, and the registry indicated that it was a mid to late 24th century design. A perfect candidate for the smaller ship class (I still haven't decided if I like it better with the nacelles on the top or the bottom).

The USS Yellowstone NCC-70073, mentioned in DS9, was classified as a Sequoia class ship in the Star Trek Encyclopedia II. I imagined it as some type of cruiser, roughly the size of an Ambassador class starship, with design elements similar to the Galaxy class due to the registry being in the same range as several Galaxy class ships. The second ship type, seen in the middle of the picture, matches this, with a semi triangular, spade-shaped primary hull and a wide secondary hull. This is a nice break from the circular/ovular saucer sections of most of the fleet and seems like a nice addition to the Galaxy class family imo. It seems like a robust light cruiser, a compliment to the Galaxy and Nebula classes, perfect for patrolling Federation borders or surveying new systems.

Fixed the image link in your post. Apparently Memory Alpha doesn't allow inline linking of their images like that.

Also, I'm going ahead and merge this into the already existing thread on Lower Decks ships. :)

I myself have always been fascinated by the conjectural class starships Okuda made up for the Star Trek Encyclopedia to 'pad out' the on-screen fleet that usually only showed the TMP movie era ships. However, I highly doubt that Mike McMahon's intentions here were to create designs for those classes as far background ships, or any ships in general. Because if that was his intent, he could have made the Parliament class ship a Bradbury or Andromeda class instead of a new class we've never heard of before. But I suppose there's no harm in assigning those classes to random ships we see.

San Jose, San Diego, and Sacramento are not a "dinky city or tourist town". They are three of the state's "better-known metropoles".
Not just state's better known metropoles, but in the country as well, they are definitely in the top 50 biggest cities. Doesn't make sense when considering the naming idea of the class, but nonetheless I think they make good names for ships.

If a USS Ontario is in the works, there's going to be a fight over California- vs. Parliament-class. Because of the California city and the Canadian province.

Well, Vancouver is a City and Ontario is a Province (in Canada). So it Parliament-class ships are named after cities, then the Cali-class would take precedence.

OTOH, if a Parliament-class ship is meant to be named for cities with actual parliament buildings, then we'd have been dealing with the USS Victoria, the city where the British Columbia parliament is placed. I've been there. Nice place, but I digress. :) Vancouver itself has a City Hall but no actual provincial seat, despite being the far larger city.
